Albion in good health for Watford clash
9:00am Monday 24th December 2012 in Sport By Andy Naylor
Andrea Orlandi will be fit to face Watford
ALBION are ready for a merry Christmas with virtually a clean bill of health after their Blackburn washout.
Boss Gus Poyet has revealed he could have Bruno, Inigo Calderon and Andrea Orlandi all back for Watford’s visit to The Amex on Saturday (5.20pm).
Gary Dicker is already in contention, as he was due to be a substitute in Saturday’s postponed clash against Rovers at Ewood Park after knee trouble.
Marcos Painter is also scheduled to resume training on Thursday, leaving Vicente as the only remaining injury casualty.
Bruno (Achilles) and his right-back deputy Calderon (knee) would still have been missing against Rovers, so Poyet was not too disappointed the match was rained off.
Midfielder Orlandi has provided a further boost with a speedy recovery from the fractured rib he suffered at Crystal Palace at the start of the month.
Poyet told The Argus: “With the situation we had with defenders it wasn’t too bad. We were ready and convinced we had the players to play well and win the game but, in terms of defensive shape, when you are missing three of your four fullbacks it’s not bad.
“Also, the pitch wouldn’t have been great for us on Saturday to pass the ball, so we would have needed to adapt a lot.
“Apparently, Bruno, Calde and Andrea Orlandi are going to be back and Gary Dicker was due to be on the bench at Blackburn and would have had a big chance of playing if he had trained more.
“Andrea has already trained with us and will start with contact Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, so if everything is fine he should be ready.
“Marcos (calf) will be close too. I think he is training with us on Thursday as well, which leaves only Vicente.
“That is the best part, because we are a team that when everybody is available are very difficult to play against, because of the quality of the players.
“When you are missing key players you will always pay the price, so I’m pleased.”
Albion have dropped a place to ninth ahead of the festive programme, three points behind sixth-placed Watford.

Orlandi is a major boost against Watford lets hope he's at least in the squad. No surprises Vicente is still unavailable, a bit too cold and wet for him.
If the Saints had to pay 5- 6 million for Jay Rodriguez then what for Buckley?

I hope Gus remembers his own words, when he said to sell our best would be like starting from zero!.
We need to add a couple of quality lads ,not sell what we have. Anyway while i wish the saints all the best,it may be that we could pass them going the other way,and hopefully Will knows this, and knows how much he means to the Albion faithful. As do all our lads.UTA

More than one club, all from the premier, after more than one Brighton player.
It seems that CMS, Bridcutt and Buckley are all targets and I guess it's not hard to see why.
Gus will not stand in the way of the players progress, every player has his price and crazy money will get the player, three very clear statements from Gus.
Buckley to Southampton for two million sounds like a, 'i am not sure if he is good enough bid,' and for two million Southampton are willing to gamble. two million is not a valid bid, he is worth more. A crazy money bid of five million might get the deal done.
What value Bridcutt, three million sound right? Crazy money bid, five million.
CMS, real value, does five million seem fair? Crazy money bid, 6.5 million.
For me the values I place on these players are reflective of what they have, and will, do for Brighton. The crazy money sale prices I have come up with are what I would expect us to have to spend to replace them.
The teams wanting our gems are those needing to avoid the drop, I just can't see any of the top twelve clubs needing them. One exception might be Bridcutt.
If the crazy money offers were on the table I would take all three of them. I would then look to loan some real talent on high wages till the end of the season. If we go up, we can then look to buy.
16+ millions in the bank and maybe spend three million of them on loanees, and another two million on loanees for the extra players we need no matter what. We would still have 11+ million in the bank.

If the very worst was to happen and we are to consider a deal for him then let's be **** sure we do ok out of it. £2m + Sharp and Hammond would be my minimum expectation.

Three players out and five in.
Pay 50k per player toward the wages of the five loanees, that would costs us five million.
For that kind of money we could get some real quality replacements.

Imho the Jan transfer window is both the most exciting and frustrating time of the season. Im not daft enough to think we will come out of this untouched, but i am gullible enough to think we might get away with only losing one of our prized assets.
I dont know what approach Gus and Mr Bloom have decided to take, whether to do as you suggest Vegas and take on some quality loans and use the money from the sale of a couple or more of our lads.
Or to do as SMF20 and myself would choose, and keep all our best lads, try and move on as many un-needed fringe players as possible and spend a bob or two on a couple of good quality players that will make the difference between finishing in or out of the play-offs.
Dont forget Vegas,Gus has promised nothing ,but has stated on several ocassions his dislike of dipping into the loan system ,unless it is season long. If he did this they would take a while to adjust, and we dont have that time,so my wish and my guess is ,that he will want to keep things as close to as they currently are as possible. UTA

Not sure the word "normally" is needed?
Selling fan favouriytes like Buckley certainly wouldn't be a good move when he's also great for the team after especially Noone going - £5 - £6 million+ perhaps - but that's not going to happen

If we were to get the crazy money offers which I have suggested we would have bucket loads of money for, rest of season loan deals.
It was reported that we are playing City 10k a week for Bridge, just think what we could get for 50k a week. Five new players, all on loan and all costing us 50K a week each. Five million well spent for promotion and still 11 million in the bank if it doesn't go our way this year.
Far Gull, not sure what you mean by, 'those three worth more than 5 million.' My crazy money prices have them at a total of 16.5 million.

What did i say a few weeks ago?People like brightonup know nothing.Im sorry to say Southhampton will up that bid by some amount. Not that im saying its a done deal yet.I also know two prem-league clubs would like City to recall Mr,Bridge so they can sign him.Again not a done deal.Clubs are looking at all the best players.Brightonup & Hovite will be happy to know Dunk,Oatway Jr,Rodgers,Barker,Ha rley, and all the other freeloaders don't have prem league,or even championship clubs looking at them.
Dunk might attract another championship level club, the others are probably better suited at this time to a drop down to div one, but as I say, that is not news to anyone.
What point are you trying to make?

I really hope that GP stands his ground as he has previously mentioned and as Tug states. Wb has been a shining light for us when not injured and is one of only half a dozen players that we have that is potentially premiership quality. We must hang on to this guy until at least the end of this season just to see if we can reach the promised land ourselves. If we can't and if Southampton are still in the premiership then maybe and only maybe we should thank Will for his efforts and allow him to step up to the biggest stage of them all.
If the very worst was to happen and we are to consider a deal for him then let's be **** sure we do ok out of it. £2m + Sharp and Hammond would be my minimum expectation.

Gus sells our 3 best players and gets "silly money" 16m...We then get 5 new lads in,and i agree because of their quality they wont take long to fit in. We go up and ,still have money in our pockets.
Or,as above but we miss out on promotion ,the high priced loanees go back to their parent clubs. We still have 11m in the bank ,but have to replace and re-train 5 new players, only with 5m less than we started with!!.
Sorry Vegas ,im with the ,"keep em" brigade, and bring 2 more in to help the push for the top 6. UTA

Ok so we lose out on promotion but we would have 11 million in the bank. Add to that 11 million the money Gus would have to spend at the start of any new season, he could have around 15 million to buy new players with.
If we couldn't get promoted with 5 top quality players from the prem, we aint gonna get there with what we have.
I would also suggest that if we don't get promoted with what we have, the three targets would probably go in the summer window and for less money.

Maybe you could explain why you think some of the players are freeloading? That infers they get paid but give literally nothing back, which is obviously a nonsense - assuming of course that they turn up for training and matches. Unless you think freeeloading means not being quite the best ni your chosen field?
PS: My son? WFT are you on? Bit early for the Xmas sherry, isn't it?

I really do not think we should keep all the players we have as has been said above by some---we need to add to our quality players we have. We have some mediocre players who are not up to it. Dunk ---imo---has gone off the boil, has he still to go to court??, maybe the reason. Dobbie not up to it yet---how long do you give anyone?? CMS value as a striker is inflated-IMO--he has to regularly score goals to be attracted to other clubs---but then if he was scoring why would we want to get rid?? Fascinating game of chess in the New Year!!!
As for Dobbie, blimey, he's only been here 5 minutes! If we've only learned one thing about the Albion is that is sometmies takes players time to adjust to Gus's way of playing.
And CMS has scored half his season's target by the halfway point. Considering we don't play to his strengths I think that's quite impressive.
