Albion target Argentinian striker
6:11pm Monday 31st December 2012 in Sport By Andy Naylor
Albion want to sign Argentinian striker Leonardo Ulloa from Spanish Second Division club Almeria.
But their bid to land the player dubbed 'The Cyclone' is in danger of being blown away by work permit issues.
The Seagulls have been tracking Ulloa, 26, for some time.
They tried to sign him in August but the deal was dashed then by red tape and he has still not managed to secure an EU passport.
See tomorrow's Argus for the full story.

Stats look decent and the right height and age. Not sure how the work permit issues differ in Spain to the UK. It is possible we may have to "spend big" on this guy, really don't know - The Cyclone is a great nickname though. I do not imagine we are suddenly going to pick up a Charlie Austin type player - anyone who will make a good Championship striker seems to always want to sign for Leicester or Cardiff.

What about big Jason Scotland at Ipswich? Roy Keane signed him when he was boss there but Scotland hasn't really made a big impact even though he's an international player (Trinidad). He could be rejuvenated by a fresh challenge. Could be the big awkward customer we need hanging round the box.
The permit issue on the Argy doesn't look promising but don't discount him just because we've never heard of him. How many had heard of Michu before he joined Swansea?

Strips off his shirt at the end and he doesn't quite have that body of steel one would expect!

I don't believe he would come out and say we are really close on someone if a work permit is proving difficult. I myself would think that this would be the second guy.
It sadly also suggests to me that Cms is on his way out.
Perhaps I'm wrong and just reading things wrong, I guess time will tell.

I may just be reading in to things but for me this suggests that Gus is wanting 2 strikers.

The guy is playing second division football in Spain and some on here say that means he isn't up to playing second division football in England.
Others seem to think that because they have not heard of him he can't be any good.
One post tells us that he isn't exactly ripped, I guess that must rule him out then.
I have maintained all along that we must sign two new front men, even if CMS doesn't go. Gus and his scouts have been looking at this guy for some time now, he might be fine as one of two new faces.
I am not clear on why there is a problem with the permit. If the player can get a visa, or what ever is needed, to play in Spain, why on earth should he not be able to get one to play in England.
Pick pretty much any country with a footballing tradition and you will find players from that country playing in England. Heck we have them from China, Japan and Korea.
I would hold back from signing nay decent african player simply because of the competition they have each year around this time. The players can be gone for weeks.

Not exactly inspiring news. We may or may not get a striker no one has ever heard of.
I think I am right in saying that Wigan are signing a guy from the MLS, probabaly another that not many have heard of.

A nothing story untill we know if we are signing him or not and that he is indeed eligable to play in England.
He may be the best thing since sliced bread.

A bit disappointing if someone we want hasn't been able to get the red tape sorted out in 5 months. Based on that progress it looks as if we might end up with one out and only one in.
As someone posted on here earlier the priority for now is beating Ipswich.
Fingers crossed.
Welcome to the new year everybody.

Plus the time it will take for him to acclimatise to the UK and the style of our football.
Need a bigger name and ability than this.
