Gus Poyet wants to give unsung members of his squad a chance to shine in the FA Cup.

But the Albion boss insists he will not be playing a second-string side against Newcastle at The Amex.

Poyet has hinted he will make a handful of changes for the televised third round clash.

He hopes Bruno (Achilles) or fellow right-back Inigo Calderon (knee) return from injury so he can use versatile David further forward.

Albion could even throw on Vicente for a few minutes off the bench if the former Valencia star underlines his recovery from a thigh injury in training today.

Bruno was forced out of the New Year's Day win at Ipswich having come back into the side against Watford three days earlier.

Calderon is recovering from bone bruising and was close to making the Portman Road game.

Poyet said: “I would like to have one of them back for Saturday.

“It would be nice if Calde can come back and have 90 minutes and give David the possibility of playing in his position.

“I would like to think we would make the right decisions for this game.

“That doesn't mean we will play the second team.

“It doesn't mean we will make five changes but it means that maybe it is a good option to give opportunities to players and to give a rest to a few who definitely need it.”

Poyet would love to get Vicente involved, as he did off the bench early last season in the Carling Cup tie at home to Liverpool.

The player trained with the development squad on Monday and Tuesday and will be assessed when he reports back this morning.

He added: “We will see how he is on Thursday and we will go from there.

“If he is lucky or fit enough to be on the bench we will maybe give him 20 minutes for him to have that feeling of being a football player again.

“Then if the game goes crazy and we don't need him or it's a risk, we will see.”

Newcastle are unlikely to have star striker Demba Ba in their ranks when they look to avoid a second FA Cup defeat in as many seasons at The Amex.

Ba was last night edging closer to a move to Chelsea, who have met the £7 million buyout clause in his contract.

He was left out of Newcastle's Premier League clash with Everton.
