ALBION are poised to be without Bruno for the third match running at home to Derby County on Saturday.

An Achilles problem has restricted the Spanish right-back to one appearance in the last five games, in the defeat by Watford at The Amex over Christmas.

Bruno was ruled out of the victory at Ipswich three days later, together with the FA Cup win against Newcastle.

The former Valencia defender wants to ensure he has made a full recovery from the injury before returning to action.

The performances of fellow Spaniard David, pictured, in Bruno’s position have reduced the need to rush him back.

David could continue in the role against Derby, even if Bruno’s regular deputy Inigo Calderon recovers from a knee injury which has sidelined him from the last four games.

Development squad strikers Brennan Dickenson and George Barker are back training with Albion after returning from loan spells with Chesterfield and Barnet respectively.

New Latvian signing Vitalijs Maksimenko could make his debut for the development squad in their league game at Millwall’s training ground on Friday (1pm).

An alternative for the 22-year-old central defender’s first taste of English football is the development group’s next home game against Ipswich at The Amex on January 28 (7pm).

It is important that Bruno recovers fully before making a return (although I hope that doesn't take quite as long as another of our Spanish crew..!). His place has been adequately filled in recent games and doesn't disturb me unduly... although it should be said that Derby will provide a sterner test than the depleted Toon. Reading their sites it is obvious they are treating this as a real 6 pointer and they have been in very good form of late. Never mind, our current form will also give them something to think about. Fingers crossed.

Still pondering how we got Bruno on a free with sensible wages. Top signing and another player that could play at a higher level

David has proven to be vital since Bruno dropped out, who knew that he could fill that spot so well.
Interestingly his taking that spot has also given Barnes a new lease on life, it would appear that the two of them work really well together. I can't see Gus breaking this newly found pairing up, start David at right back and you start Barnes.

Sorry.So what about your friend waiting at a bandstand for a fight for half hour in the cold.I think thats said more about your friend Hovite.If someone thinks for themself is that what people like you do take action against them.You are one coward championshipgull.Is that all you have to do in your day.Phone a paper about a football club post.You have any idear how many really bad things go on in this world.The only thing you can care about is a football post lol.How very sad.

NO Problem the combo we have of Lopes and Barnes is the best we have had think Gus should stick with it even when Bruno &Caldi are fit

That just goes to show how thick you are, I didn't go down there for a fight, I just went down to witness your no show, and prove that you do only live in your own virtual made up lying little world. lol

I feel sorry for your mum, dad and family, and if you have friends or an employer, which I doubt, I feel really sorry for them too.

Thats great, Lopez is doing a great job, defence splitting pass for Hoskins, Bruno can come back when he stops giving the ball away cheaply, competition for places, i would rather see Lopez at right back at the moment.

I thought too many players looked for Bruno in the home game against Watford, to the point of over-reliance on him. He became over-worked, which was unfair on him, and started giving the ball away. The effect was that the team became completely predictable. Other players went missing especially from the midfield.

This was not Bruno's fault of course, and we wish him a speedy recovery, but i think his forced rest has been a blessing in disguise for the balance of the team, who have had to take more responsibility since, and got great results.
