Ulloa's future still in the melting pot

The Argus: Leonardo Ulloa. Will it be thumbs up or down for Albion? Leonardo Ulloa. Will it be thumbs up or down for Albion?

The future of Albion transfer target Leonardo Ulloa is still up in the air.

The Argentinian striker is being linked with La Liga strugglers Granada.

Alberto Benito, sports manager of Ulloa's Spanish Second Division club Almeria, told The Argus: "Many clubs are interested in him but at the moment we don't have an agreement with any club."

Albion's interest in Ulloa depends on the 26-year-old securing a Spanish passport.

Venito said: "We are in the same situation. He still hasn't got a Spanish passport."

Maybe if Granada hadn't loaned all their players to Watford, they might not be struggling quite so much?

Maybe we shall have to revert to that Plan B, building our strike force around CMS and Will Hoskins with them actually playing together - something that has been seen only too rarely thus far. I personally think we could do worse and we have yet to see the best of them collectively... And think of the money we might save. Luvvly jubbly.

You couldn't make it up- we desperately need a striker so Poyet goes out for one that needs a Spanish passport. Now the Spainish authorities aren't exactly known for their promptness with such matters are they!?

So are we going to chase him until the end only to end up with nobody again, or maybe we'll sign another midget in desperation on boxing day when everyone can see that that's not the type of player we need...

Deja vu...every transfer windows the same with Poyet.

It sounds like the old familiar story to me. The window draws to a close and still a passport is not forthcoming, or he signs for another club. The search for 'that striker' becomes more complicated, as we head into the final half of the season.
I really hope I'm wrong this time, but this does appear to be the same old same old.

As for 'real name' commenting on this site. There really are'nt that many regular contributors in the first place, so the implementation of their real id's would more than likely mean no contributors at all.
All sites have to contend with a number of WUMs, it simply comes with the territory. So I cannot see anything to be gained by creating security risks that the majority would not be comfortable with.

When the story of Albion's interest in Ulloa first broke a week ago Poyet was reported as saying that the club couldn't afford to wait for his passport situation to be resolved. He said if it wasn't sorted promptly and we waited we might miss out on other potential targets.
I would suggest the time to move on and pursue those other options has arrived. Playing brinksmanship might not help us get to the play-offs.
Thoughts anyone ?

I'm sure Ulloa is not the only striker on the radar. It's also possible he is a smokescreen to divert attention from the real, 'surprise' target.

You're right, and there seems to be one or two contributors using many different usernames, which doesn't leave many genuine posters, but I'm not sure what the security risks are. People have real names, they are not secret in real life and many, many sites insist on them for purely a troll-bashing reason. Those that have them have a noticeably higher signal to noise ratio.

Would you be calling others 'utter imbeciles' with the cloak of a nom de plume?

Gus will do what Gus does - he will work hard within financial constraints to get whatever is best for the club. If we get Ulloa, then great. If we don't then we'll get someone else.

To all you sceptics--I am sure Gus and others are working hard behind the scenes to get the right man or men in for Albion---not as easy as just going out and buying someone like going to a shop and getting a suit!!! Gus is good at keeping his cards close to his chest, as you can see from any rumours or Sky sites--very little really about BHA. Sure the Argie may be first choice but I sure they are not sitting back waiting---think about it 'sceptics'!!!??

If he is playing in Spain, why doesn't he come under the EU rules of working - and be able to play in the UK? Is it a working visa for Spain?

MelsTels my understanding is that the Spanish Authoriities (since that is where he resides currently) have to issue him with an EU passport.
One cannot be given an EU passport until you have 5 years residency behind you.
Apparently he hadn't been in the EU 5 years when BHA were interested in him in August. I assume that he has now passed the 5 year mark otherwise we are completely wasting our time until he has.
I hope that helps.

As Ulloa's agent said, there is a lot of interest in the player, it could be that heels are being dragged for a reason.

If he has reached the required number of years to obtain a passport I would guess the process would take about 3 to 4 weeks. I don't have a problem with waiting to get what we want but, I would like to hear a verbal commitment from the player as to his intentions. If he came out and stated, yes, I am joining Brighton just as soon as the passport is sorted, that would do for me.

I am sure that Gus has a plan B.

I advised Gus to look elsewhere when this story broke over a week ago.
But I repeat - all the while we are waiting on a passport, the other options are being snapped up.
Even if he gets a passport, there's no guarantee he will sign for the Albion.
Come on Gus, the Derby and Birmingham games are coming up and we still haven't strengthened our strikeforce.
My fear is that the Newcastle win will have lulled GP into a false sense of secrity and he'll start thinking we don't need signings after all.
Over to you Gus ..

Lulled into a false sense of security, nope I don't see that happening.

Everyone and his dog knows that we must sharpen up our front line options, and that has been known for some time now.

It would be great if our team started to find their winning ways again and even after we sign our new players, those players are not urgently needed on the park.

I don't think Gus would allow himself to walk the transfer tight rope, he knows that we have a great chance of reaching the playoffs.

I swear half the people on this forum have their knickers in a twist. All the comments of "time to leave this one Gus" etc. make me laugh. You do know he doesn't read this right?

Just sit tight and be patient people.

Look at our previous signings and look at the quality brought in.
Bridge - pure class.
Bruno - fantastic
Orlandi & David (both now coming into their own)
Vicente (you all hate him now but think back to how good he was. The guy is injured!)

The list goes on. Fantastic signings which are all pure class to watch. And everyone moans about the new signings not working at first, then when things go well they love the players. Never seen so many two faced fans.

Yes not every signing has come good, but I think Gus has a pretty good track record. Keep the faith and stop bloody moaning you bunch of girls.

Never seen so many two faced fans. Yes not every signing has come good, but I think Gus has a pretty good track record. Keep the faith and stop bloody moaning you bunch of girls. pandaking

should be playing by March then!!!
Time to offload him Im afraid, use his wages on another. Dyer is available...no second thoughts, he spends more time in the treatment room than El Sicknote.

Vicente, love him or hate him we all know that we are better for having him fit and playing than we are without him.

If the only thing, as fans, that we are interested in is getting promoted then Vicente can aide that cause. When the player is fully fit who do we have in the squad that can do what he does, who can bring what he can bring.

I have slated this player big time, I truly though that he was swinging the lead, I have come to realise that I was wrong.

If he was, 'at it,' then the whole management team and the medical team would all have to be in on the deal, I can't think thta to be true.

Glad to have you back Vagas. If everyone thought the same it would be a boring world my friend. You can post 24/7 if you like my friend,if that makes you happy.I hope you read my post about the numbers being down on all news storys in the Argus.Even after a murder trial there was just 17 posts last week. That would have been between 300 or 350 a few years ago my friend.I for one am glad your back. Its only you & MBTS that really have a football brain,& show a real love for the club.
Clearly your judgement, like your spelling, is flawed to make such an irrational statement.
At least try to spell your friend's name correctly.

Just returning to the story rather than the Vicente tangent, the guy signed for Castillon in Summer 2008 which means, on the basis of what has been said before, he doesn't qualify for a passport until Summer 2013, So he ain't gonna come here until at least then, but then why would we want him.

Keep on saying, stick with Hoskins he will do the business.

It might well be possible to get a waiver to cover the remaining few months he has to wait, especially if he owns a property there, a property that he would be paying taxes on.

I don't know, maybe someone else does, but could he apply for a temporary work visa valid in the UK, a visa to cover him for the four months he needs untill his passport application goes thru.

Hmmm to be honest the agent would say there are a hundred clubs after him, truth is he won't earn half the cash he would in England, as for Vicente " I seriously can't wait for his hibernation to end,

Yes I am sure we will offer him a decent pay packet. I thought I read on one of the sites that a italian club was interested in buying him. I could be wrong on that as I read so many sites about so many players.
