Ulloa's future still in the melting pot
10:01am Tuesday 8th January 2013 in Sport By Andy Naylor
Leonardo Ulloa. Will it be thumbs up or down for Albion?
The future of Albion transfer target Leonardo Ulloa is still up in the air.
The Argentinian striker is being linked with La Liga strugglers Granada.
Alberto Benito, sports manager of Ulloa's Spanish Second Division club Almeria, told The Argus: "Many clubs are interested in him but at the moment we don't have an agreement with any club."
Albion's interest in Ulloa depends on the 26-year-old securing a Spanish passport.
Venito said: "We are in the same situation. He still hasn't got a Spanish passport."

So are we going to chase him until the end only to end up with nobody again, or maybe we'll sign another midget in desperation on boxing day when everyone can see that that's not the type of player we need...
Deja vu...every transfer windows the same with Poyet.

I really hope I'm wrong this time, but this does appear to be the same old same old.
As for 'real name' commenting on this site. There really are'nt that many regular contributors in the first place, so the implementation of their real id's would more than likely mean no contributors at all.
All sites have to contend with a number of WUMs, it simply comes with the territory. So I cannot see anything to be gained by creating security risks that the majority would not be comfortable with.

I would suggest the time to move on and pursue those other options has arrived. Playing brinksmanship might not help us get to the play-offs.
Thoughts anyone ?

It sounds like the old familiar story to me. The window draws to a close and still a passport is not forthcoming, or he signs for another club. The search for 'that striker' becomes more complicated, as we head into the final half of the season.

You're right, and there seems to be one or two contributors using many different usernames, which doesn't leave many genuine posters, but I'm not sure what the security risks are. People have real names, they are not secret in real life and many, many sites insist on them for purely a troll-bashing reason. Those that have them have a noticeably higher signal to noise ratio.

As for real name commenting, does the Argus Comment Section (hardly a bastion of intellectual free-thinking) actually want to reveal the real names of so many curtain-twitching, terrified, child-hating, Mein-Kampf-loving Dignitas cases who hate theirs and everyone's lives...?

So many people moaning about 'deja-vu' and 'same old Gus' - utter imbeciles.

Gus will do what Gus does - he will work hard within financial constraints to get whatever is best for the club. If we get Ulloa, then great. If we don't then we'll get someone else.

The club have a budget, and a wages structure, which it appears, they are sticking to.
I would rather have another year or two in the Championship, than get promoted before we are ready, and drop straight back again with debts and contracts for overpaid players.
Gus and Tony Bloom are on the right track, just think back a few years!

If he is playing in Spain, why doesn't he come under the EU rules of working - and be able to play in the UK? Is it a working visa for Spain?
Confused - can somebody explain to me?

One cannot be given an EU passport until you have 5 years residency behind you.
Apparently he hadn't been in the EU 5 years when BHA were interested in him in August. I assume that he has now passed the 5 year mark otherwise we are completely wasting our time until he has.
I hope that helps.

If he has reached the required number of years to obtain a passport I would guess the process would take about 3 to 4 weeks. I don't have a problem with waiting to get what we want but, I would like to hear a verbal commitment from the player as to his intentions. If he came out and stated, yes, I am joining Brighton just as soon as the passport is sorted, that would do for me.
I am sure that Gus has a plan B.

Ok Freeloader do you think it's possible, likely, that Ulloa's agent is dragging his heels on this passport issue, maybe holding out for a bigger and better deal for his player?

But I repeat - all the while we are waiting on a passport, the other options are being snapped up.
Even if he gets a passport, there's no guarantee he will sign for the Albion.
Come on Gus, the Derby and Birmingham games are coming up and we still haven't strengthened our strikeforce.
My fear is that the Newcastle win will have lulled GP into a false sense of secrity and he'll start thinking we don't need signings after all.
Over to you Gus ..

Everyone and his dog knows that we must sharpen up our front line options, and that has been known for some time now.
It would be great if our team started to find their winning ways again and even after we sign our new players, those players are not urgently needed on the park.
I don't think Gus would allow himself to walk the transfer tight rope, he knows that we have a great chance of reaching the playoffs.

Just sit tight and be patient people.
Look at our previous signings and look at the quality brought in.
Bridge - pure class.
Bruno - fantastic
Orlandi & David (both now coming into their own)
Vicente (you all hate him now but think back to how good he was. The guy is injured!)
The list goes on. Fantastic signings which are all pure class to watch. And everyone moans about the new signings not working at first, then when things go well they love the players. Never seen so many two faced fans.
Yes not every signing has come good, but I think Gus has a pretty good track record. Keep the faith and stop bloody moaning you bunch of girls.

If the only thing, as fans, that we are interested in is getting promoted then Vicente can aide that cause. When the player is fully fit who do we have in the squad that can do what he does, who can bring what he can bring.
I have slated this player big time, I truly though that he was swinging the lead, I have come to realise that I was wrong.
If he was, 'at it,' then the whole management team and the medical team would all have to be in on the deal, I can't think thta to be true.

Just returning to the story rather than the Vicente tangent, the guy signed for Castillon in Summer 2008 which means, on the basis of what has been said before, he doesn't qualify for a passport until Summer 2013, So he ain't gonna come here until at least then, but then why would we want him. Keep on saying, stick with Hoskins he will do the business.
I don't know, maybe someone else does, but could he apply for a temporary work visa valid in the UK, a visa to cover him for the four months he needs untill his passport application goes thru.
