Albion agree Ulloa fee

Leonardo Ulloa celebrates a goal for Almeria Leonardo Ulloa celebrates a goal for Almeria

Albion have confirmed they have agreed a fee with Spanish side Almeria to sign their striker Leonardo Ulloa.

The Argentinian, who has played in the top flight in Spain, will fly to this country over the weekend to discuss personal terms.

Ulloa today secured Spanish citizenship and is due to receive his passport in the coming days.

I guess we can regard this guy as a strike partner rather than a loan striker.
I can't think that Gus is buying him to replace anyone, this will probably not be a case of CMS or Ulloa on the park, I have to think that they will both play. I wonder what this means for Hoskins.
My hope is that Hoskins will get his chance to play the CMS role, be given his chance to link up with Ulloa, I think he will.

Please don't let this be the end of inward bound strikers, we need another. Jason Scotland is on the radar, IMHO a loan cover striker, keep looking Gus.

Will Hoskins must be gutted. Big shame, he will have to move on.

The boy from Spain will take some time to adjust to the power and pace of the Championship. Not the quick fix some will imagine.

On the other hand it might be the game plan to unload Macca and get some money back, plus Eliot Bennett.

we don't need another striker. we have barnes, cms, hoskins and now ulloa, i make that plenty. Im hoping this will take the burden of CMS who i am confident will still hit 20 goals.

Yes, we don't want our new striker in the Pudding Club even though he looks about seven months to me.

The 26-year-old is flying to the UK this weekend to discuss personal terms and is expected to firm up his move to the Amex by the end of January.

Ulloa began his career in his homeland of Argentina - playing for San Lorenzo, Arsenal and Olimpo before making the move to Spain with Castellon.

Almeria swooped for his services in 2010 and he has rewarded the club since with 48 goals in 102 appearances - finishing top scorer in La Liga's second tier last season with 29 goals

That's from Sky Sport. Didn't realise Arsenal had him on thei books once. Also, nearly a 1 in 2 goal ratio is not too shabby, is it?

Hoskins has had chances and has not shone (i include Sheff Utd). This is one Gus definitely wants to happen. So let's hope personal terms are sorted and he comes aboard the bus...

This guy looks good ..lets hope he is :) But i think we should keep Hoskins sell CMS if we have to ...pains me to say it but think its right .... or in a perfect world , keep all three ..but with one striker up front , chance of first team footy will be limited ...

Good signing though , lets hope he is the striker that we need ... and lets hope that we support him with good service from midfield ... Lets hope its the answer :)

Good to see Vicente back :)

A gentle reminder, yes we have Barnes, CMS and Hoskins, the same three strikers that proved we needed another.
If Ulloa gets injured we are back to square one, and that would not be good for a promotion run.
Just my humble opinion.
His arrival, should it happen, will give us cover for the three you mention but we have no cover for him.

The hold up is because he needs a passport---but he is flying to speak to the club over weekend--It may sound stupid, but I assume he will then have more than one passport?? As he is able to fly hear before getting his new passport. Hope it IS a done deal, and also no need to offload any of our existing team. One more piece in the jigsaw. Will be interesting to hear from Gus as to whether he is looking for anyone else--as previously he indicated that this was NOT the big signing.

I am hoping that Hoskins will find his feet with this goal and go on a good run. CMS can score and has 11 to his name but as our only goal threat a team can put 2 men on him. I think Barnes will come into his own if he is given the chance up front however he seems to slot in well behind the striker. I would rather we saved our money for when we get up rather than overexert ourselves. Saying that you make a very valid point, DJ Campbell wouldn't be a bad back up boy as he knows where the net is an displayed solid form at Ipswich recently.

'firm up his move to the Amex by the end of january,' seems a little vague.

If he is going to be here tomorrow to sort out personal terms why would we have to wait for his signature?

I do hope that he doesn't keep us dangling just in case he gets a better offer.

With all the strikers we now have, with different skill sets, we will be able to change games.

I won't explain how, it would take too long, but we now have player combos to start and finish games. Leo may only be used after CMS has tired out the defense. Could even play with CMS, Hoskins and Leo if we have to chase the game.

No one is dropping down, it's a team thing, in training during the week, and on match day.

That's because he has an Argentine passport which allows him to travel, but needs a European passport to get a work permit.

Great news! Now we have CMS, Hoskins, Dobbie, Ulloa, Buckley and Barnes all able and willing to play upfront.

Unless there are going to be a few departures in this department it appears that we are overloaded with possible strikers.

Will we see 2 upfront as an attacking force at long last - it would be the first time since we have been in the Championship and would be great to see a more attacking style.

Certainly no shortage of possibilities.

Fantastic work in Spain to get his dual nationality sorted so quickly.

I find it slightly strange that people feel anything for Will Hoskins - is he going anywhere...? Having the choice of Ulloa, CMS and Hoskins - any 2 from 3 is mind blowing... If you want to feel for anyone think of Ashley Barnes... He may make the bench, may... IMHO of course (and with fingers crossed).

It would seem that the Ulloa deal is just about in the bag and now that it is, I suggest that we finish off our frontal attack on promotion by taking Guidetti on loan from Man City.

The player has not long returned from injury and is very keen on playing regular football. Guidetti has made it clear that he is up for a loan deal to an english club, according to a report on Sky Sports.

haha i remember those days. Was it ipswich we played to stay up at the withdean and he scored the goal to keep us in the championship? those were the days, when we had no aspirations no prospects we just fought for survival and the things other clubs took for granted. We should remember those days because other clubs might think we take too much for granted.

i strongly disagree with any suggestions to do with selling CMS. remember he was prolific at P'boro playing a very different role, using his pace and tenacity and running onto balls down the flanks or over the top rather than as a hold-up man. Now we have our hold-up man. He and CMS could be a terrific combination. This is what I think Gus invisages.

I also hope Hoskins can stay and show us what he's made of. He looked so good at Bristol Rovers and caused us so many problems when playing against him in the way that Noone did when at Plymouth.

It was Ipswich. But I look back on those days with pride because we made the very best of extremely limited resources and stayed in the Championship despite the odds. (albeit for only one more season!)
