Crawley snap up striker from Premier League club

Crawley have signed striker Jamie Proctor on an 18-month deal from Premier League side Swansea City.

The 20-year-old put pen to paper today after a medical at Broadfield Stadium and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's home game against Carlisle United.

Proctor started his career at Preston North End where he made his debut as an 18-year-old. He went on to score five goals in 37 league appearances for Preston before moving to Swansea last summer.

He failed to make a first team appearance at the Liberty Stadium and follows in the footsteps of Joe Walsh who left the Swans to join Crawley in August.

Boss Richie Barker said: "Jamie was outstanding at Preston and deserved a chance at Premier League level but unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for him at Swansea because they have a very strong squad.

"He wants to get his career kick-started and he fits the template of player I want here to progress this football club. He is talented, wants to work hard and is at an age where he can only improve.

"I have monitored Jamie throughout his career and when the opportunity came to bring him to the club I didn’t hesitate for a second. I am looking forward to working with him and I’m sure he is the type of player our supporters will enjoy watching because he works unbelievably hard and has an eye for goal."

Proctor suffered a double hernia in late 2011 before leaving Preston to join Swansea last summer. His only action this season came during a brief loan spell at Shrewsbury, where he played three games.

Proctor said: "I had other options which I had to think about but the manager sold me a very exciting vision of what the club want to achieve and I am delighted to be here.

"Hopefully I can bring a lot of things to the team including goals. It’s been a frustrating few months – I just want to be out there playing regularly and hopefully contributing to a successful Crawley team."

Well done Richie sounds an exciting prospect and Jamie welcome to the Broadfield. Hopefully you have been learning from Michu !

If you and Gary can score say 15 goals between you come 27th April then we should be in the play offs and could be on route for that record breaking 3rd promotion.

Look forward to seeing you play !
