ALBION No. 1 Tomasz Kuszczak faces a test of character at Blackburn Rovers tomorrow night after throwing away victory at Birmingham.

Boss Gus Poyet will stand by the Polish international after he allowed a routine header from sub Nikola Zigic to slip from his grasp two minutes into stoppage time in the 2-2 draw at St Andrews. Kuszczak will be replaced by Casper Ankergren against Arsenal at The Amex on Saturday if Poyet continues his policy of using the Dane in the FA Cup.

And the manager admits it is hard to know how Kuszczak will respond at Ewood Park to his first costly mistake since his summer move from Manchester United. Poyet told The Argus: “I don’t know, it’s a good moment to see what happens now. That’s goalkeepers. When you make a mistake everyone remembers it for a long time. I didn’t expect Zigic’s header to go in when it was in the middle of the goal. Nothing changes. Let’s hope that’s it, a one-off.

“He hadn’t made a mistake before that so it will be interesting to see how he reacts on Tuesday.”

Vicente came on for the last eight minutes at Birmingham, his first appearance since August due to thigh trouble. Poyet hopes to give his Spanish playmaker more game time at Blackburn.
