Albion transfer target Virgil van Dijk could snub the Premier League in favour of a move to the Seagulls, his agent has revealed.

Henk-Maarten Chin has described Albion as a “very interesting option”, as it will give van Dijk, 21, more chance of playing regular first team football.

The Argus website revealed on Friday that Albion’s undisclosed bid for 6ft 4ins centre half van Dijk had been turned down by his club Groningen.

Boss Gus Poyet, speaking in yesterday’s Argus, refused to rule out a fresh offer for the Dutch under-21 international, who has also been linked with Everton, Newcastle and Sunderland, as well as attracting interest from Germany.

Chin told The Argus: “I hope Brighton might come back. It’s possible. Virgil would love to go to England and we are very open to Brighton.

“It would be an interesting move for him, especially on the football side of things.

“Obviously, there are some clubs in the Premier League interested but it might be good for him to go to a club where he can play. That’s important to him, so it’s a very interesting option for us.”
