Albion add another overseas player to development squad

Albion have continued the process of overhauling their development squad by signing 18-year-old Icelandic midfielder Emil Asmundssen.

The Iceland under 19 international has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The Seagulls brought 22-year-old Latvia international centre half Vitalijs Maksimenko into the development squad earlier in the January transfer window.

Boss Gus Poyet said recently he wants to improve the level of the development group so more players progress into the first team.

This can only be good for the future of the club. At some stage some our 1st team are going to be getting older. If we have players that learn G.P, S style they can just fit in.

Excellent news. One for the future. The club is obviously making every effort to improve the standard of the youth setup.

Why?
We are allegedly ploughing the entire continent in the search for a centre half. Surely at 22 this guy, an international it is stated, is either good enough or not... Our development squad seems to be a refuge for Scandinavian internationals. Hopefully the new guys will develop further and quicker than Toby (sorry mate, I think you should have had more exposure to the 1st team!).
