Albion have eased their centre-half crisis by borrowing Matthew Upson from Stoke City.
The England World Cup goalscorer joined the Seagulls on loan tonight from the Premier League Potters for the rest of the season.
Manager Gus Poyet said: "We wanted a player in that position. We had the chance to bring a player of his quality and went for it.
"He has presence, he’s a leader and it’s a good opportunity for us and for him to play football."
Upson added: "I’ve heard lots of positive things about Gus and his style and the whole package here at Brighton and Hove Albion. It is very exciting."
Romain Vincelot was released from his contract by mutual consent along with development squad player Matt McGiveron.

Great news. Another quality addition to the squad. Also great news so far that none of our key players have gone.

He should suit our style of play as he is a good passer of the ball which you would expect of any ex Arsenal player.
Poyet can now plan longer term for the CB positions. Perhaps vanDijk might join in the Summer window.

Really pleased to have Upson on board, I am sure he will do well for and with Brighton.
Nothing on the potential Dobbie deal but I guess that could go thru during the loan window.

I think in the circumstances he is the ideal signing. He will add experience to the back and will also be an asset at set pieces. The position can be re-evaluated in the summer depending on not only our position but that of clubs whose players we are interested in.
Great signing and pleased to see Dobbie move on to somewhere he might get some game time. Just hope he doesn't score against us!

Real shame we haven't seen much of Dobbie, no doubt he has quality, wonder what has happened to make him such a spectacular flop at Brighton! Not sure he'll get much more game time at Palace though to be fair!
Guess the fact Hoskins has stayed shows he is in Gus's plans and should hopefully be involved.
If Ulloa can start finishing our moves we really will be serious contenders. A win expected at Sheffield!!!! :)

Dobbie to P*l*ce on a reported "emergency loan" is a strange one. Funny that that lot up the road have 2 Brighton rejects playing up top though!
Best part of all is we kept all our stars. Find it unbelievable that no-one sniffed around Bridcutt. Maybe we will find that enquiries were made. Glad he is still with us!
Good window for us. Really think we can get into those play-offs.

This guy may turn out to be just what we need... I am sure that he will prove to be a very astute signing come the end of the season.
Our back 5 if you include Kuz now looks as good as any if not better than any in the championship. I'm guessing that Matt will replace Adam when the skipper returns but in the mean time, I'm sure Adam will enjoy playing alongside a very experienced ex international, another ex international that is. Who'd have believed it.
The team/squad at full strength looks a very impressive and capable one. Back 6 including Bridcutt is of an unbelievable quality and it looks just as good moving forward withe the likes of Buckley, Vicente, Lua Lua, Orlandi, Ulloa to name but a few carrying our attacking threat.
Things bode well for an assault on the playoffs.
Only disappointment is Mr Dobbie. I was really excited when we signed this guy. Gus raved about how we'd love him and given we beat off numerous other clubs to get him, the future looked good. I guess it goes to show that sometimes it really is just a matter of a club and a player not suiting one another.
A great window for us. Uta

Just seen that Xisco has cancelled his contract by mutual consent at NUFC.
Has a great goals per game record through his career and being a Spanish speaker he might be another good addition for the run in to promotion!!!!
Looking forward to Saturday at SW!

As part of the terms of Dobbie's Loan he can't play against us even in the playoffs if we were pitted against each other.
For whatever reason Dobbie wasn't given much of a chance and didn't really fit into our playing style. The other 3 end of August signings do seem to have worked out. I wonder how much Of a panic buy Dobbie was when Norwich were pursuing CMS at the time.

This info was supplied his manager during an interview on Sky.
Forest wouldn't sign him because of this eye test but having declined to buy, they then asked if they could loan him, me thinks they were extracting the urine.
I wonder if we are that mystery club.

Lastly, I know it attracts interest, but please can we concentrate on what Gus can do for us NOT what he may do for Chelsea. Hope he comes out at a press conference to tell us what happened at the Club in the January window and also squash the 'rumours' about him and Chelsea

Interesting to hear that Boyd's move died due to an eye test and that a club in our division, placed higher than Forest, are ready to sign him and don't have a problem with the eye test.

Whatever happens to GP in the future, he is currently our Manager, and doing a great job. We have a realistic chance of making the play-offs, having had a good transfer window, losing none of our key players, yet bringing in an England International, and what looks to be a promising forward. We spent £2m on Ulloa, and offered another £2m for Dick van Dyke (or whatever his name is). I have supported BHA for 50 years, and these are incredible times for us. I am enjoying this ride! Palace are becoming an old peoples home for semi retired forwards. Good for them, but I really don't think they are long term competition for the Seagulls with our investment in the Amex and the new training centre.
