Dobbie joins arch rivals on loan

Stephen Dobbie's deal will become permanent at the end of the season. Stephen Dobbie's deal will become permanent at the end of the season.

Stephen Dobbie has joined Albion’s arch rivals Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the season.

A deal was for out of favour striker was finally confirmed after the 11pm deadline.

The move will become permanent on July 1.

Dobbie, 30, has been restricted to five starts since signing from Swansea at the end of the August window and has recently lost his place in the squad following the return of Vicente.

A permanent move to Palace was changed to a loan deal initially due to complications over how many permanent clubs a player can have in a season.

As part of the deal Dobbie will not be allowed to play for Palace against Albion in March nor in the play-offs should Albion get there.

I believe gus doesnt understand that lossing 2 strikers to palace is a big nono. I was hoping he would be playing more for us.

is this the most pointless transfer we have made in recent years? never really given a chance and never looked to fit from the start so why was he signed? Hopefully this means we can get someone in on loan like Bobby Z or get Saha with the money made or maybe it will just be to cut losses...

Has a lot of ability and should have fitted in, but for some reason always looked slightly off the pace and tried to hard to make things happen when he had the chance. At least he scored an injury time winner against Peterborough so at least he did contribute somthing during his stay. Has been a good player for Holloway in the past.

I think this is a good deal for Brighton. As already said, the guy just didn't fit in even though when he was bought the club obviously thought he would.

We have now saved a percentage of his wages, and maybe all, and we have a deal already in place to sell him and by doing so get some money back.

Other wage packets have also been removed in the last few weeks, inlcuding today, so that helps.

A good window for the club.

Shame on the loss of Dobbie, but the good news is that we've kept Bridcutt & CMS until at least the summer. UTA

I seem to recall Gus stating that Dobbie would become a real favourite with the fans when he brought him in.

The reality is that, on the one hand he had very few opportunities. And on the other hand he didn't produce.

All said, a poor signing. These things happen and he may do better elsewhere if given more first team opportunity. Another signing to Palace however could turn the poor signing into an epitaph if he goes on to become a roaring success at our rivals? Lets hope not!

Not surprised CMS is still here. Lets gave it guys, he is hardly prolific? Great to keep Liam though as he is defiantly destined for bigger things.

The other point I forgot to make is how his place has been supplanted by Vicente???

So?? He isn't going to stay, let's face it! His return is a non issue IMO, for Dobbie leaving.

Disappointed that it didn't work here. Annoyed that he has gone to Palace.
Pleased he is not eligible for play offs if we are in them.
Best news of the window is that Liam remains.

Good riddance to Dobbie, call me Dobie, ha ha. Cost a bomb in wages apparently, yey made no effort to fit our style of play.

Hard to see how he will feature at Palace but I do see this as a good bit of business. I'm sure he could be a great player but I didn't see him suiting our style of play from the little I saw of him. Happy to have Upson onboard and I'm now looking forward to a great second half of the season.

Well done to to the Argus, by the way, for their transfer updates yesterday. Great work, guys.

Dobbie must have been one of the squarest pegs in a set of round holes, otherwise known as the Gus system of playing.
He actually annoyed me, because he did not appear to understand what was required of him within the team. And the harder he tried, the worse he played.
Perhaps linking up again with Ian Holloway will improve his performances, because he obviously couldn't hack being at a big club, that's for sure.
That double glazing team did try to buy half the Championship players yesterday as I recall.

Dobbie was signed as insurance for CMS. CMS didn't go anywhere and when he was injured Dobbie didn't have the technical ability to fit our style. As for where he has gone... Not so much a case of gone to Palarse but gone to Holloway, end of...
Good window. The main issues have been addressed. The ability of Big Len (or 'Leo') looks promising but form, luck etc is a strange mistress. Upson is quality but the same applies.
The only 'missing link' now is the midfield box to box player. Hammond is starting to play better and i think we'll be alright with him and Bridcutt and the now impressive duo of Spanish Dave and Orlandi to fulfil our midfield needs for the remainder. Add Vincente into the mix, with the improving form of Barnes and the ever industrious CMS (you never know he might find his head again); then we are a vast improvement on the skill set this time last year. And yes... Bridcutt didn't go anywhere.

Sorry to lose him. Never felt he was given much of a chance. I wish him well but hope we do not come to regret his departure to our close rivals. Can you imagine how galling it would be if he strikes up a lucrative partnership with Murray which ousts us out of the play-off spots!!! Doesn't bear thinking about.

Dobbie is not very good & not good enough for us going forward
Having said that he should walk into Palace's failing team

I don't like to pick hairs, but shouldn't that last line have read -

"As part of the deal Dobbie will not be allowed to play for Palace against Albion in March nor in the play-offs should Palace get there."

Good Luck to Dobbie. I wish him well as IMHO he is a class footballer. Problem was there was clearly a clash of personalities with Gus which was obvious if you watched all the interviews.

When he came out publicly and stated that we (Albion) had a great chance of getting promotion just the day after Gus had publicly stated the team are not good enough to get promoted - I feared he'd cooked his goose!

He's far more natural ability than others and I think he'll provide a great supply line to Glenn Murray. He's with a manager who knows him well and believes in him - thank goodness he won't play against us!!!

Best of luck Stephen.

Why did Holloway sell Dobbie in the first place, he only came on as a sub so no big deal losing him
