Crawley will attempt to sign a striker on loan after Jimmy Spencer suffered an injury setback.

Spencer has not featured since joining on loan from Huddersfield Town four weeks ago due to a knee problem which is taking longer to heal than expected.

The striker was due to stay at Broadfield Stadium until the end of the season but is now likely to return to Huddersfield early with Reds seeking a replacement when the loan window opens next Thursday.

Boss Richie Barker said: “It is not good news on Jimmy I’m afraid as the initial injury is not getting any better.”

Spencer’s continuing absence means Crawley are struggling to fill their bench for tonight’s game at Sheffield United.

Kyle McFadzean remains sidelined as he recovers from a virus while a plea to the Wales FA to release Joe Walsh to play against the Blades – 24 hours before he is due to win his second under-21 cap against Iceland at Llannelli – fell on deaf ears.

Barker added: “We asked about Joe but we didn’t really expect a positive answer as he is going to be part of their European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign which starts next month and tomorrow’s game is part of their preparations.”
