Albion sign young defender

Albion have added former Chelsea centre-back Rohan Ince to their development squad on an 18-month contract after he impressed on trial.

Ince, 20, joined Chelsea at the age of seven, was a scholar at Stamford Bridge and signed his first professional deal in 2010 but did not make a first team appearance.

He had a loan stint at Yeovil and joins Albion as a free agent.

Ince can play in a defensive midfield role or at centre-back, He won the FA Youth Cup in 2010 with Chelsea.
Being the third cousin of ex-England midfielder Paul, and the nephew of former Albion defender Eric Young, he could be a good prospect.

I agree. Ince is the third player we have signed for the DS since 1 January.
I notice that it is reported on the back page of today's Argus that "Albion will make a renewed attempt to splash out on a younger centre-half in the summer with Virgil van Dijk still high on their wish list"
I hope we go for him and don't hang around in making an approach at the end of the season (if not before).
On another thread it is reported that Bruno and Buckley should be available for the Hull game but that Crofts (who ?) is still struggling with his hamstring injury and as a result won't be considered. With no Barnes available because of his suspension it will be interesting to see who Poyet selects. Fingers crossed for Saturday...

Yes , three signed , which must mean a clear out this summer, lots of players and DS squad out of contract.
I hope we can seal the Dutch guy before the end of season, I would imagine Cardiff would be looking at this type of player if they get promoted.
The guy ince looks useful .

This is where our future lies - and what a coup it would be to get the Dutch lad at the end of the season.

Glad to read that Gus went out and watched the lad play in Holland. IMHO it's imperative that any manager sees players play live before any big money is spent. Not possible to make sound judgments based on DVD's alone. Need to see the whole picture.

Yes agree we must build for the future--but correct me if I am wrong (as I am sure your will) but I have yet to be aware of any DS squad member who has made it to the 1st team. I was hoping Forster-Caskey would return and be given a chance in the 1st team. We have so many now in the DS so must be a clear out soon. Be good sometimes to have a Club update on what is going on in the DS and what players were shining and could expect to be promoted.

I think Bridcutt was signed as a DS player? Also have to remember how far the club has come.. and what was good for the DS 18-24 months ago might not be good enough now.

I am pretty sure that we will, over time, see more players of this type come to the DS. If we were still at Withdene this is a deal that would not have happened, same for the Latvian lad.

Next year we will have our new facility up and running and that should help in attracting many more youngsters and maybe Mr. Brady too.

Dunk has certainly come through from our Youth section. I still think JFC will develope into a first team squad member and Agdestein started in the DS and was awarded a 2 1/2 year full contract early last year.
I think Grant Hall was offered a full contract last March but didn't take it up and joined Spurs when his DS contract expired at the end of June.
The player to watch out for now seems to be March who has had one outing with the main squad already this season.

ing post mikeygit you are 100% spot on yet again because you can think for yourself. Not even Crawley want Agdestein or JFC on loan. These kind of players upset other young players that wish to work hard in the game and make something of their short time in the game.

Liam Brady, 57, says he will consider taking on another position at Arsenal when he departs as head of their youth development in May next year.

"I'm not going to retire as such, I'm retiring from my role," the RTE website quotes him as saying.

"I want to take things a bit easier, it's a very demanding job and I want to do something else and the club have said there may be another role for me."

On another subject - just read on the club site that Steve Ford and Alan Sanders both resigned their positions last week as heads of the AITC.

They are both good people and Steve Ford has served the club for over 20 years I think.

Replaced by an ex Amex Senior Vice President but only as an 'interim CEO' which would suggest that these resignations were quite sudden.

No mention of this in the Argus last week. I hope with Paul Barber's influence we aren't going to make the mistake of focusing primarily on making money by neglecting the personal side of the club. Of course money is essential especially if we are trying to get into the Premier League.

I guess I'm concerned at seeing a lot of good people from back room leave the club without any stated reasons.

Maybe Paul Barber, via The Argus, can shed some light on these latest changes. These may seem un-important but I find it strange when our AITC part of the club has been acknowledged as being one, if not THE, best in the country.

Not really they are still a big club.Plus like many other clubs in the championship the people that own the club want the big money the prem-league bring with it.When a manager is given a job he is told what is wanted from him,and in what time.If they fail sack them. These are not poor men that sign on the dole after.

Great news with regards to the Development squad. However, how about a summer move for George Boyd? Apparently Alex mcGleish had agreed a fee with Peterborough in the region of £500,000. When the Forest board failed to back McGleish this is when he decided to quit his job. Somebody like George Boyd is just what we need in the centre of the park.

Spot the obsessive.....
Here's a clue - writes all bad things about the Albion, particularly individual players whom he claims (with no real evidence) are cheating the club by their lifestyle choices and lack of commitment! Oh... and has a serious problem with spelling and punctuation.

What I heard is Boyd is out of contract in summer, and the chairman wanted to offer him a welcome fee in the summer! The manager refused to deal in a under hand matter, the chairman spoke to doctor who noted Boyd wears lenses! And the rest is history!
Club could certainly do worse than him, good player, just wonder what he could do in a good side?

What's the obsession with George Boyd and how has it popped up on this unrelated thread? I can only assume it's because he looks like a flair player with his long hair, but he's a player who sometimes looks good in a poor Peterboro side but would like average in ours. I don't think Gus will be fooled again like he was with Harley.

You mean the Forest Chairman? So he was prepared to wait 6 months to save on the 500k fee? But after the welcome fee was paid thats a saving of less than 500K and no Boyd to help with a promotion push.

If thats the case not very clever then- pennywise pound foolish

Thank goodness there are some people who are able to think and see through smoke screens.

Has anyone else noticed that since the sacking of our former Youth Team Coach, Steve Brown, our Youth Results have seemed to go down?

I'm totally open to be mistaken but observing all the different comings and goings at the club it feels like harmony is missing.

When coaching staff get involved in conflict with officials and opposition staff it's always just a symbol and a reflection of unrest within the club.

Good strong leadership is needed. I hope we see it.

I'm sure you're right about the youth setup post Steve Brown. Haven't checked, but the whole youth set up doesn't seem the same since Brown left and we seem to have gone back to being average with occasional signs of progress, rather than a vibrant progressing set up.

The reason our results have gone down is because we don't play dagenham and redbridge and barnet youth anymore, we play a higher standard. What the youth set up is to play in the southern academy league,
Which means we play quality sides, beating aldeshot 6-0 means nothing . I watched brighton youth beat barnet one day, Gatting scored 4 . Only thing that day achieved was blowing hInsh ego up.

Such signings are a great sign for long term future planning (given that alot of our first team signings and loanees are in the plus 30 bracket). However would also like Gus be a bit more adventurous with bunging the occasional DS member into the first team especially when others are injured (would it be much more of a risk than bringing in a last minute temporary loanee?). If they are good enough, they are old enough (think of how many great players made their debuts in their teens). If they aren't good enough is there much sense adding endlessly to our large squad?
