Bridcutt: It's all about the win
10:00am Sunday 10th February 2013 in Sport By Brian Owen
Liam Bridcutt on the ball against Hull
Liam Bridcutt has admitted the result meant everything as Albion edged closer to the play-offs.
The Seagulls are two points off the top six after yesterday’s 1-0 win over Hull City.
Bridcutt has conceded he was not too worried about the manner of the performance.
He said: “You see with the celebration how much it meant.
“We knew before the game we had to win, no matter how we played or how it was going.
“We just knew we had to get three points.”
Bridcutt was named skipper in the absence of Gordon Greer and Inigo Calderon.
He admitted: “It was a bit of a shock.
"The gaffer called me over before the game and asked if I wanted to be captain.
"It was good to lead the team out and have that responsibility.”

massive fan of bridcutt though thought yesterday was one of his quieter games. agree wholeheartedly about upson and al abd, and ulloa and also tomasz, thought they were all excellent

Great win, but I did not think the two striker worked, we looked wide open in midfield.. So much space for them, plus the two Spanish boys don't like a tackle! Hammond and dicker to start Tuesday,

I see Harry Redknapp (or Kidnap?) is trying to stir trouble with talk of taking Wayne Bridge if (ha ha!) they stay up. (See today's Mirror.) Must admit I didn't see that coming - he has apparently already tried during the transfer window... Hopefully LB, TK, WB and the rest will stick together and see this through to the end... and further! Fingers crossed

Amazed that some people are still criticising Gus for being too defensive by the employment of Hammond. This was by far the most ambitious and attack minded team we have put out ( i include the substitutions in this). We were way too open when Hammond went off. It was a gamble that thankfully paid off. I would have preferred to have seen Vincente on for CMS but i am neither paid nor qualified to have anything more than an opinion...
I don't generally do the ' told you so ' thing but i will make an exception on this occasion to make up for being wrong about the employment of the 4-4-2 (which it effectively was yesterday). So... El Abd, i thought he was magnificent yesterday and this is not an exception. There are and were many on here that slagged him off, particularly but not exclusively for some of his antics. Well not only did he defend brilliantly but his little wind ups and 'gamesmanship' was there for all to see yesterday and arguably won us the game...
Another who whilst beyond criticism, has perhaps a point to prove (but only to himself), was TK. Definite MOM and some great second half saves when we were all gung ho!
Bridcutt: Captain; let us hope he takes on the role permanently when Greer is eventually put out to grass (optimism is a wonderful thing).
So all is good and the Argus comments pages are typically lighter in victory than in defeat. May i wish all the WUMS and Trolls a well earned rest and 'see you next tuesday' (hopefully not).

ders and Spanish Dave. Hull showed how we should set up on the road. Good confidence boost ahead of Tuesday night, big,big game.

We were very narrow in the first 45 and easy to defend against, crying out for some width. CMS had a very poor game, touch poor and lacks strength. I would start with Leo, and replace CMS with Buckley. Still need some power in the midfield to compliment Vicente,Orlandi,Brid

Also, everyone seems to have jumped on this 'CMS has a poor first touch' bandwagon in the last few weeks. No-one has ever mentioned it before but now it's the latest thing to complain about.
Because of this I have been watching CMS particularly closely and I just don't see the problem. Granted his first touch is not as good as the Spaniards (well, duh!) but it's not as if the ball pings off him, a la Carlton Palmer. His first touch is fine, generally, and certainly good enough.

PS: It's about time that people came up with something original to complain about, if complain you must. Stop parroting someone else's opinion :-) Here goes... has anyone noticed how Hammond NEVER scores with his left foot from more than 35 yards? It's really starting to become quite apparent and is a definite weakness.

Well come tuesday evening Barnes will have just one more game to sit out, two strikers is now the norm so does Barnes go to midfield, I think he might.
I think Bruce had a plan yesterday, sit back for 45 and soak up the pressure and then try to hit us late in the game as others have done many times before. It nearly worked.
Two strikers means more pressure on our midfield so those charged with holding the middle had better be quick in both mind and across the ground. Dicker for Hammond, maybe, Dicker does seem to be more accurate in his passing but I don't think either of them have that much pace.

I think your right, our midfield needs some thinking about,if we are to play 2 up front. Barnes is certainly a better solution than donkey hammond,i dont like being disrespectful to players, but he is the archetypal blundering midfielder, who we do not need.
I think Gary Dicker has not been played enough,he has a good pass and a good head,he is also a good strong Irishman, which may give you an indication as to where i hail from.
Thats it Vegas im afraid my head belongs to another world today, thinking is just out of the question, the backspace key is wearing out with my incompetence to type,......hair of the dog anyone?.
While my problems are tiny, and self inflicted,i truly hope yours grow smaller everyday. UTA

I think the lack of technical ability has been noticeable for some time, not just recent weeks. If he was back at his rampaging best, getting plenty of shots away it would not be such an issue, but right now he looks like a fish out of water.
