Vicente puts focus on his football not future

Vicente was the match-winner Vicente was the match-winner

Vicente has put thoughts of his future on hold while he tries to help Albion into the play-offs.

The Spanish star came off the bench to fire the winner against Hull City.

It was his first home outing since the opening week of the season.

Vicente is out of contract in the summer but says he has found life in England easier this winter than last, when he was also troubled by injury.

He said: “I’m not thinking about the future yet.

“All I’m think about is taking it game by game.

“I want to finish the season well here for Brighton becausepeople here have always treated me really well.

“Then we will see what happens.”

Vicente thanked fans for the rapturous ovation with which they greeted his 59th minute introduction off the bench.

He added: “What was also important for me was the ovation from the crowd.

"They have really helped me from the start.

"I’m happy but all that is missing is playing a bit more."

Think if the fans really get behind not only him but the whole side including cms' then they will produce. Sorry to say but Zamora is cheaper than Vicente .. If they got paid for the time on the pitch.
Rhodes has scored in seven consecutive matches!

Does anybody else on here only do the job they are paid to do, and are contracted to do, when they can feel the love and adulation from others who are paying their wages? We have a star in our team, no doubt, but are we expected to care whether or not he feels appreciated? I check my bank account every month to see whether I am appreciated for what I do for a living.

I guess that depends on whether your job involves creativity. No 'performer' is going to be at their best when they are feeling disliked, whatever their particular profession. It all comes down to being appreciated.

Fair enough, but when you look at what Vicente has done in the game, who he has played with and for, you'd have thought he would be a little more pragmatic about his professional life where appreciation is measured in somebody offering him a contract he is prepared to sign.

Vicente won't be here next season. For my own part I'm simply looking forward to enjoying watching him as much as possible for the remainder of this season. Even though he wasn't at his majestic best during his cameo on Saturday, he entralls me by the way the ball is glued to his feet when he sets off on those mazy runs. I've never seen a more technically gifted player turn out for the Albion.

Agreed. My guess is that Vicente will be on the first plane out-a-here once his contractual obligations expire. I'm sure he'll be much fitter and more available for the remaining games in his own interests, but hopefully providing match-winning services at the same tim. Enjoy it while it lasts...

Totally agree with bth comments here. As for next season who knows? But let me put forward a senario ,a long way off i concur.
1- Vicente's fitness holds up ,nee improves
2- He helps us get promoted
3- His wife is happy(all our spanish players looked and said they are enjoying life here on pre match sky build-up)
4- Weather really perks up and we have hot spring and summer :-)
5, By being promoted our man has one last crack at 32,
of the big time in prem( or spanish second tier with Elshe or whoever)
6 - Money offer for one season with us sets his family up for 5 yrs in spain!

Will he still be with us next season now ? I happen to think if 5 of above happen he will still be here, bet you !!!

Probably only Vicente himself knows at this point where his future will probably take him at the end of the season.

I think if we found ourselves heading up to the Prem and his family are happy to stay for another year, he would possibly stay. He came because he wanted to play in England so surely he'd want to give the Prem a go.

For now I think we should just hope he can stay fit to play the majority of the games left. 1 because it gives us a much bigger chance of getting promoted this season and 2 because its just a privilege to see such a gifted player playing for our club. Even if we do go up and get better players in, we'll do very well to get anyone as talented as Vicente.

Have to agree that Vicente will be on his way unless we go up. Watched the interview on Seagulls player and maybe asking a little to much from someone who has sat around for months that he could speak at least a little English after being here for over a year.
He looked as though it was all to much.
Sorry, but just have that feeling that although he is getting his wish to play football he will be away to warmer climes at the end of the season.

He is currently our player and if we are serious about promotion has to start games with the rest of the midfield tailored to his game. We have enough quality in the squad to populate the bench with game changers if things are not going well. Play vicente with Bridcutt Dicker and Lopez from the start tomorrow with Cms and Leo up top. Now we will see what our management team are made of.

I'm with you on this one Far Gull. I have been extreemly sceptical about the man but have modified my views of late as per a previos thread. Vicente stated in The Argus that last winter was very hard for him, but found this one a lot easier. As you say Far Gull if we have a good spring and summer and find ouselves in rhe PL he may well sign for one more season especially as he also states that his family are very happy to live in Brighton,England. I would put the odds on him staying as 60-40 in our favour considering our Spanish speaking contingent. If the wife is happy Vicente will be happy.

Get a grip and appreciate what we have, the club and the players need our full support so that valuable players stay.

If you project doom, gloom and conspiracies it can only do the club harm.

Well put Hovite. It's fine and healthy having differences and arguments about different players, there would be no point coming on here otherwise. But, it's very noticeable how some have to have someone to scapegoat eg Vicente, Barnes and now CMS. Sometimes it's vitriolic to the point where it's no longer just an opinion but nasty. Likewise, some on here go over the top with their view of other posters. My guess is that a number of these people suffer from inferiority complexes in their real lives and are the type that if they don't shout, them others take no notice of them. Just one final reminder regarding Vicente, the most technically gifted player imo to have worn the stripes, if he didn't have fitness problems he would never have signed for us. Gus knows that as do most proper supporters. It's frustrating when he doesn't play, but I for one wouldn't have missed it for anything. UTA

Sadly some on here need something to make a subject of division where none exists.

Restrict how many words can be used in a posting.

CMS should make way for Hoskins, even though he has only started 5 matches and done what?

Gus is leaving.

Bloom will, and should, remove Gus.

It took too long to get a target man to work with CMS, we now have one.

CMS should not partner our target man.

And on it goes.

Real opinions about any of the above are good for debate but when commenting surely it's wise to put some meat on the bones. If you think Hoskins above CMS then say why, explain your thinking. If you think Gus should go say why and offer a better option to Gus and why he would be better.

Hit and run comments are simply that, hit and run. If you don't have the ability to offer arguement to support your views then I guess you can always fall back on the, 'comments are too long,' stance, much easier isn't it.
And if all else fails, then you always have me to have a pop at, even easier.

Saraman I odn't think that Hovite is saying that people shouldn't voice negative opinions, I think his point of view is that, at times the way in which the negatives are writen they become personal attacks rather than genuine observations.

Two ways of writing basicaly the same comment.

CMS was useless on saturday, and should have been taken off. He clearly doesn't work well with Ulloa, his first touch is bad and all he seems to do is run around like a headless chicken.

CMS didn't have one of his best games on saturday and it is clear that he and Ulloa need more time to create their partnership.
CMS put in his usual hardworking performance but there were times when his first touch let him down.
As Gus has made it clear that he intends to persevere with CMS and Ulloa Hoskins will have to wait his chance.

One of the above is a personal attack, the other says pretty much the same thing without getting personal.

Okay, Orlandi missed a chance against Hull, but is 4 in the previous 7 not good enough for a midfielder these days?

So Orlandi missed from 12 yards it happens to the best in the world. still a great player, and as for Vicente,, pure magic. I for one hope that he stays to see us through the transition into the premier league. And whats all this having a go at vegas. For a supporter that posts from the other side of the atlantic, he has an uncanny knack of posting interesting comments, without having been to the game. This is more than can be said for others that post wh do go to the games.

Agree with every word. We have possibly the most gifted player the club has ever had and all we can do is moan. Vicente is a footballing genius the like of which is rare even in the Prem - we should be glad we got any games out of him at all. Tomorrow could be my last change of witnessing his silky skills in a blue and white jersey and I'm going to enjoy it.
Don't think the fans are being overly nasty, more the knowing the genius is within the club,
And more to the point could if fit for next 10 games get us into the play offs with ease if his head was right!
I stood as many did on Saturday to welcome him back,
On another point, the free kick Saturday was a virtual replica of another last year, club were in black and red quarters shirts? Am I imagining it? Or am I right?
What do you mean you don't think fans are being overly nasty? are you saying they / you are only being slightly nasty?

Whatever mbts, your justification fails me
I am not justifying anything, I feel cheated we have not seen more of Vicente, I don't mention him as a person, but a footballer, his ability is second to none, sadly he plays so rarely I feel cheated by it! So nasty is just that.. Cheated we have not seen him bar 40 minutes this season.

This site is all about opinions and I'll offer one. Orlandi is a technically excellent player and a goalscoring midfielder to boot. He is also not as 'lightweight' as some occassionally post. A key player in this run in to the playoffs, and beyond.

Yes deprived a better term, this is a bet , if his head stays together, and he plays 450 minutes in the next ten games, we will be in the play offs, that's how good he is, if he turns injured again, I don't think we wil make it..

MBTS - Saturday's free kick was very similar to the one he scored at that end against Portsmouth. That one went in the the opposite corner though. Even his celebration was virtually the same except he didn't take his shirt off and get booked. Too cold for that!!!

Ringmer Rich - Agree with you. It should still be a joy everytime we all get to see our team play in our fantastic stadium, lest we forget where we have been but, yes, knowing there is a chance Vicente will be playing makes me spring up the 100-odd steps to my seat in the West Upper even more than usual! It's an honour to watch him play at all but for us is just magic!

Dave from Bexhill - Very good point to mention that if Vicente hasn't been dogged by injuries for a few years, we would never have had the chance to sign him at all. I have no doubt without the injuries he'd still be playing for Valencia in La Liga. The fans still worship him there too!

Lets just hope he can stay fit for the rest of the season. Even if we don't get to the play-offs, we will have been able to watch a world class player play in the stripes.

UTA
Would you seriously put him (Vicente) above Binney?

He's very very good but we simply haven't seen enough of him

What was key of course on Saturday was his shot was on target - we've had a fair few deflections go against us this season and led to goals past TS but I reckon (and it feels we may be?) be shouldn't be training to have shots off target in the hope they get a deflection and then head towards the goal quite so much - apart from Ulloa, in the pre match warm ups it seems that way anyway

Can anyone think of a single decent reason why Vicente wouldn't start tomorrow? I am reckoning he certainly will

Yes, I think I would - even the best players in the world miss easy chances, so lets not badger a decent player who HAS been scoring for missing a chance! And you're saying 'lack of talent and ability to handle the pressure' about a player who scored against Newcastle in an FA Cup game? Seriously? Were the games Orlandi HAS scored any less important than the Hull match? He missed a chance, that is all! He didn't bottle it or show a lack of talent - he had a keeper and three (THREE!) defenders to beat and tried to place it out of the reach of all of them. No doubt you would have whined if he had hit any of them by hitting it low.

I think a fit Vicente would walk into almost any premiership team and could still do so at his age if fit (Giggs anyone?). The glue on his left foot reminds me of Silva and even Messi and he seems to push the ball without backlift when passing rather than striking it. It's like watching someone on FIFA13! So how he doesn't start for Brighton is incomprehensible to me (unless it's a match fitness thing and Gus honestly thinks he can only manage 30 minutes - I doubt that's the case though as I'm sure his skill and vision can more than compensate).

The one advantage of Brighton not taking a lead into a second half is we are more likely to see him come on if on the subs' bench, but let's start him and go for a 2 or 3 goal lead by 60 minutes!

He is one of those players you get occasionally that make the hairs rise on the back of your neck. He is a special player. I don't feel cheated because of his injury, I feel saddened by such a talent being so unlucky. I am maybe one of the few fans who still get a tear in my eye as I goggle in amazement as I take my seat at the Amex. HOW LUCKY are we to have such a fantastic stadium? I looked in the mirror Hovite and liked what I saw. I thought to myself, yep I'm a true fan and always have been since 1963/64 As are most posters on here who bother to comment regardless of the fact that others may agree or disagree. It's the passion you know that make some of us appear sometimes negative or overly optomistic. You don't become a bad fan after 50 plus years it' just that we have had so very little success as a club over 120 or so years that we are desperate for more. I believe that success is just around the corner.
Only just looked properly at this thread, but this is an excellent post. You cant imo be a true supporter unless you have real passion. Whilst you should try and temper that passion with regards to players,it can sometimes be hard. I believe frustration in a player can evoke negative comments from people,if as with Vicente,we all know how exquisite the mans gift is,so when he has 5 months out,it turns eager anticipation into said frustration and even mild anger. I for one can be very rude to other posters, but ONLY if they commit the cardinal sin and abuse or insult the Albion,or belittle us in some way,i have said here before,i can take insults aimed at me,but not my first love. After all im only human, albeit barely. UTA
