Orlandi: This sends out a message

Former Swansea man Andrea Orlandi reckons Albion have sent out a play-off message – by beating what used to be his arch rivals.

Orlandi scored a neatly-taken 43rd-minute opener as the Seagulls won 2-0 at Cardiff.

Success against the leaders closes the gap on the top six to just two points.

Orlandi would love to join his old Swans mates in the top-flight and said: “For me scoring here and winning at Cardiff is fantastic.

“I will enjoy it more, definitely, being a former Swansea player and obviously for us it was vital.

“That was the chance for us. If we didn’t win tonight we knew it was going to be difficult (to get into the play-offs). We have shown we can still do it.”

Orlandi reckons Albion kept their heads against good opponents. He added: “They put us under pressure but we kept calm and cool. They had chances but we kept calm which was maybe one of our weaknesses during the season.”

Tomasz Kuszczak excelled in goal for Albion, his heroics including a brilliant double-save from Craig Bellamy.

The goalkeeper said: “That one was key. It was quite early in the game.”

He added: “This was the kind of game we have had many times this season at home. We attack, we attack, we can’t score and we draw the game or lose.

“Maybe we have passed that form to Cardiff now. I hope they are going to have that and we are going to keep winning!”

No let's hope Cardiff keep winning since we've played them twice and they still have our play-off rivals to meet again.

Agreed Yorkie, it looks as though Cardiff will win the league. So as you say, if they win every game from here on in it will help us. Their pride will be hurt after last night so I pity Wolves on Saturday.

Picture this;

The last game of the season, Wolves playing for survival, and we have to win by two goals to scrape into the playoffs.

Hopefully Wolves will have been relegated by then. I prefer that scanario.

Are you trying to give me nightmares Hovite? If it's between us and M'brough we currently have a goal difference of 11 to their 1. So I don't really think that will be a scenario.

Just as we feared. Radio Sussex reports that Hammond is doubtful for Saturday. Now what?

What's the panic, why are we so obsessed with the holding midfield role ? Just go for broke Saturday, 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 a midfield of Vicente,Orlandi, Buckley , Spanish Dave & Barnes, or Barnes with Leo. Oh, and drop Bruno for Calde, simples.

I wouldn't "go for broke" but as you say there are plenty of options and I'm sure GP has already trained the lads for this kind of thing.

Yep carry on as normal, get better, cut out mistakes and we should do it.

Two months or 11 games ago Millwall were sitting pretty above us and now they are 6 points from relegation.

Watford were behind us around this same time and are now playing for an auto promo spot.

14 games to go and our destiny is in our hands.

What really impressed me last night more than anything was the team spirit.
We kept battling till the final whistle and in my humble opinion looked fitter than the league leaders

Orlandi for me is growing game to game as is Ulloa
We have proved we can compete with and beat the top six

Can we?
Yes we can

One would have to think thta there will be more upsets for the top six as the season winds down, note I say the, 'top six.'

We, sitting in 7th, must ensure that we don't lose to those below us right now, that said I think Leeds will be hard to beat away from home, I think we could end up losing that one.
Leeds are a club dealing with some issues right now but by the time we play them those issues should be resolved.

All posts on this thread cover most aspects. Good to see belief in the lads, as much as anything as I think that has been missing a bit. Perhaps this win will tip the scales now. We are still due at least 5-6 more lucky wins!!!! Don't care how they come.
Been listening to talk sport today with Bolasie from up the road on. He's related to kaz ,and talks to him regularly. Think we may have to stop that with March (and maybe May ,said in whisper ) coming. ;-)

We have to play three of the current top ,six still! So definitely interesting which is how ,and frankly what we deserve for our play this season.
Hammond iffy then! Anyone know Croft's situ? Think their are plenty of options if not as good as Liam in there.
Lets hope even if we sellout ,everyone turns up for every!!game from here to the end of season!
Vegas reckon you could yet be tempted over for a play off game :-)

Far Gull nothing would give me more pleasure than to get over for any game, playoff or otherwise.

As of right now I can't see it happening but that doesn't mean that it wont.

Dickers got to start surely. Barnes straight in for Buckley, just behind Ulloa.
Vicente well could start as this is more his game. JFC could be in with a shout for 45-20mins. Some win-able games coming up, Burnley aren't in particularly good form....time for a 2-3 win run i think (hope) .

Only two teams have conceded fewer goals than we, Cardiff and Hull, both of whom we have beaten-unlike last year when we couldn't beat any of the top six, and we have lost fewer games than every other team save for Palace and Cardiff. Only thing letting us down is goals scored, (though GD is good), and the amount of draws. We are definitely punching well above our weight, as we did last year. We should all be very proud!!!!

You forgot Leicester. They have the meanest defence in the league.

Interestingly we had one more point at the same stage last season so we shouldn't get too carried away just yet. Two home wins and i might start getting very excited. At the moment I am optimistic. Someone will play the holding role on Saturday as our whole way of playing revolves around it. You can't just suddenly go gung ho at this point in the season.

KeefyH44 says...
9:36pm Thu 21 Feb 13

Of course we can't. I know a win and a loss means three points whereas two draws is only two points but surely the psychological effect of not losing must have an effect. We may be the draw specialists but not losing is a huge lift for the players.

Find it surprising Hammond's fitness is considered so important (even with Bridcutt out) . Think we have plenty of other options for the next 2 games and probably as good a time as any for Bridders to serve his time.
