Albion beat Burnley with a David volley at The Amex today – but they made hard work of a 1-0 success.

David struck with a superbly executed left-foot finish on 21 minutes after a cross by the impressive Wayne Bridge had been helped on by the head of Andrea Orlandi.

The result was enough to see the Seagulls into sixth place after Middlesbrough lost to Millwall.

Orlandi also thought he had teed up a goal for Leo Ulloa, only for the striker to somehow fire off target from point blank range.

Burnley, though, also had chances in an entertaining first half and Albion keeper Tomasz Kuszczak again played a big part for his side.

This time the Pole, who was key to recent wins over Hull and Cardiff, got down to his left to make a fabulous save as Jason Shackell’s downward header from a corner seemed goalbound.

Shackell had earlier seen a similar effort hacked off the line by recalled Gary Dicker as Burnley chased an equaliser.

Burnley had a lot of the ball afer the break.

Chris McCann fired the Clarets’ best chance of the second half off target from close range.

Albion sent fit-again Gordon Greer on as a third centre-back for the last few minutes and clung on to the precious points.
