Ulloa at the treble for Albion

Leo Ulloa scored the first ever hat-trick at The Amex to keep Albion firmly in the play-off places.

The Argentinian striker opened his league account at his new home ground with two classic headers and a cool finish of a one-on-one as the Seagulls beat Huddersfield 4-1.

David rounded things off with a penalty.

Albion were level at 1-1 for most of the second half, thanks to James Vaughan’s brilliant overhead kick equaliser for Town in the 42nd minute.

Peter Clarke twice cleared off the line from David after the break.

But David’s corner was headed home by Ulloa on 76 minutes to make it 2-1 as the floodgates opened.

Ulloa charged through to round keeper Alex Smithies and add his third two minutes later.

David struck from the spot on 81 minutes after sub Craig Mackail-Smith was fouled.

Ulloa departed soon after to a standing ovation.

His opener, on 20 minutes, was a powerful near-post header from Andrea Orlandi’s cross.

Brilliant, brilliant. I'm a long way away, reading the result on the BBC website, can now go to bed feeling happy, or if he's not bothered I don't mind having a go with grumpy...

Cardiff and Leicester beaten again. It's beginning to look a possibility.
A huge 'well done' to the Albion

So Gus CAN pick a striker after all.

So pleased for both him and Ulloa.

Perhaps we (myself included) can stop wondering what if we had kept Murray or signed Wood now.

Tougher tests to come. UTA!!!

Good in the first half, great in the second. We actually look dangerous from corners & crosses at last! Great performance from Ulloa, and another good showing from Spanish Dave - excellent distribution & two perfectly struck shots cleared off the line by defenders. UTA

Classy hat trick from Ulloa today, two quality headers and a very assured finish for his third, Lopez was outstanding, his range of passing and vision today was different class, mom, if Leo hadn't bagged three goals.

Dicker off the pace again, Bridcutt back for him on Tuesday, Buckley looked sharper today but still a way to go before he is on top form again.

Orlandi on the left was once again very classy, crosses of high quality from his cultured left foot. Huddersfield were moaning about the ref, but they should have been down to ten men, Danns should have gone for his lunge on Hammond.

A spanking has been on the cards for a while, and today we witnessed one. Win on Tuesday and that automatic spot is not out of the question.

Fantastic result. Three consecutive victories will breed confidence and three goals for Ulloa will get him fireing on all cylinders. What a result, particuarly when you consider we were without out three best players in Bridcutt, Bridge and Vicente, who will hopefully be available for Bolton!

Great stuff...
That should shut up the Ulloa wums for a while.
Good performance, Spanish Dave and Orlandi just look better and better. Great to actually see a period of sustained pressure actually produce three goals...
I have criticised Dicker before and don't rate him other than a second to third choice cover. Yes he can pass a mean ball but at this level he takes too long to do it and thus gives the ball away far too often.
Had some muppet going on about tippy tappy football behind me in the West today. He seemed happy enough in the end though.
A sustained effort. Let's not blow it at lowly Bristol. On this showing and the resilience now being displayed, i don't believe we will.

Auto spot last year was 88, so with 12 games left we would need 11 wins.

The best we can hope for is to average 2 points a game and finish 4th, which is better than aiming for the 6th place we calculated a couple of weeks ago.

Cheers guys.

I know Huddersfield are one of the weakest away teams in the division, but to stuff them without Bridcutt, Bridge and Vicente just shows our depth of squad. And having someone like Calderon to come in out of position is fantastic.

On the Huddersfield forums their fans are whining something chronic over the referee. How did everynoe see his performance? Was he awful or are they just sour grapes?

I still have some jitters about the trip Bristol but today has eased them a tad.

Something that some of you may have missed. Today we played for 30 minutes without giving away a foul and I think it was only 5 for the whole match, (excluding offsides). Earlier in the season, when we were winning, we had simillar figures, maybe not quite as good but very simillar.

Being cool and composed wins matches. .

You guys have to sleep, I have a whole day to enjoy this result -:)

With regards to the ref...

Booking for their player on Bruno was a bit harsh. But the reaction by Gerrard afterwards could have got him a sending off. Danns could have gone and great spot by the linesman for the corner which led to our goal (ball bent out of play but came off their player).
Overall they can't complain. Just feel a little bit sorry for the guy who cleared superbly from Spanish Dave twice. But not that sorry...

YES! Someone who agrees with me about 2nd spot!!!!

Play each game as if it's the last game we need to win and we can do it. Only 7 points behind once we win our game in hand and 36 points to play for.

As much as I love the thought of Wembley for a Play Off final it's only fun if you win. When we lost against Notts County to go into the Premiership with Barry Lloyd's team it was the worst I've ever felt after an Albion game knowing we'd have to sell our best players to survive.

So for me I'd go he'll for leather for that 2nd spot. The big change for me is that the PLAYERS have made up their minds that they can do it.

Now Gus please STOP talking about wanting to manage Chelsea as you did again on The Footballers Fantasy Show last night. I for one am tired of hearing about your personal aspirations. Put 100% of your focus on getting us into The Premiership and your career will automatically take the path it deserves - but you do need to let go of your Chelsea obsession, be grateful for where you are and what you have and let life take care of the rest. Now for 9 more points in March!!!

We don't know he doesn't know, he had no shirt number as Ulloa nicked it.

Talking of Ulloa if anyone has seen my previous posts I retract them. I think he will get a lot of goals, particularly with his head.

Great performance again and a well deserved win.

Dann's should have walked first half so any ref-based whinging from them is unfounded.

Nothing for them (Huddersfield) to complain about. We could have had 7 or 8 and Danns SHOULD have been sent off! Admittedly, on the play the scoreline flattered us but our shots today mostly went in and that was the difference. Feel sorry for Spanish Dave, great saves by their keeper to keep his shots out. Why only 9 points? Two years ago exactly we were on a similar run and took 24 points from 24, eight wins on the spin in March, (i believe a record) which left our opponents treading water unable to keep up and the rest is history ok a couple of those wins were less than convincing but who knows, a repeat now is not out of the question by the way we are currently performing.SEAGULLS.

Huddersfield town were indiciplined and were extremely fortunate to finish the game with 11 players on the pitch.I think the ref was far too lenient and bottled some major decisions that should have been red cards. It is not that long ago that we were thumped 7-0 by Huddersfield, with as I recall, some very questionable refereeing. It was Karma today, what goes around comes around.
