Huddersfield boss rues corner verdict

Andrea Orlandi jumps on scorer Leonardo Ulloa Andrea Orlandi jumps on scorer Leonardo Ulloa

Albion have been told they were fortunate to score their game-changing second goal against Huddersfield.

But Town boss Mark Robins was disappointed with how his side caved in at The Amex.

Leo Ulloa put Albion back in front from a corner Huddersfield felt should not have been awarded.

A determined Huddersfield display then disintegrated as they were sent to a 4-1 defeat which keeps Albion in the top six.

Asked if he felt his side were going to get a result, Robins said: "Yes, I thought it before the game and I thought it up to 75 minutes until the referee gave a corner kick that wasn't a corner kick.

“That's disappoitning but it's not just that. You can't blame the referee and I am not trying to do that.

“What disappointed me was the concession of the second goal led to capitulation really.

"The two goals that followed were a result of the misfortune we experienced with the second goal."

Is someone forgetting about the foul on Orlandi that should've been a red?

Probably a fair assessment of his team - didn't have a lot going for them other than hard work and organisation. Once that had gone they became a bit shambolic. Having said that, aside from a slow start Brighton playedwell throughout and 4-1 was a fair reflection. If Huddersfield had nicked a draw it would have been a travesty. Think Robins may have a job keeping them up.

Losing Manager's usually look for excuses rather than admitting that their team was beaten by the better side.

Sorry Mr Robins, it was a legitimate corner. My seat in the lower west is almost in line with the south goal. The ball took the faintest of flicks off of a defender which was quite rightly spotted by the linesman. Jed on the previous thread commented that it should not have been a corner but I can assure him it was as stated.

So Mr Robins its a corner, just defend the corner. How can it lead to a 4-1 thrashing.

Well done the linesman. Still reflecting on the game and pondering if Spanish Dave produced the performance of the sesason so far.

Sraman, i sit near you and can also confirm (as i did on an earlier post) that it was a corner. The cross bent out of play before Barnes met it at the far post taking a slight but definite touch off their defender. The lino was right on top of it and so were you (and me).

They were fortunate to go in level at half time I thought. A look at the stats will tell you it was not a lucky win, we were better in every department, and by some distance.

Not sure what robins is on about, I suppose he is trying to convince his players they were hard done by!
The lunge tackle infront of the Lino and the fourth official shows the standard of referees having the balls to send someone off! Shocking tackle. Poor decision by ref.

I'm going to be audacious enough to change the subject - it's Sunday, I've had time to recover from the heady celebrations of yesterday and put on my controversial hat yet again. Where, may I ask are all the lads who were screaming, just a week ago, about the glaring miss by our new born hero. Where are they now and why oh why are they not going on about the sitter that a certain Ashley Barnes wasted in the short time he was on the pitch yesterday... Oh to have double standards, tunnel vision and a limited knowledge of football.

There! That should start a few keyboards rattling in to activity. Roll on Tuesday night, I can't wait. I'm even reluctant to cross the old fingers for a good result, this outfit doesn't need my superstitious remedies... ha! ha! UTA

So Mr Robins, five games and you have conceded 14 goals, how many of them have you made an excuse for?. You were second best and if you cant see that, then Huddersfield are already down. UTA

I am not one of those of whom you speak regarding Leo but having defended Barnes upon occasion, i'll take the opportunity to hopefully add to your post. Leo missed a sitter last week and Orlandi has missed a few also. The more astute have noticed their overall contribution; in Leo's case, in a relatively short period of time. Barnes has blown hot and cold this season. Having replaced the hapless and wasteful (possession) Dicker, he freed Orlandi to be more instrumental in the middle. He should have perhaps directed his header on target but as has been debated to death... He provides a useful and generally effective option on the left. In a more central or free role (as against Arsenal), he is more positively 'visible'. I will however admit that he has had his share of ineffectivity this season and been invisible. But far from proportionate to the amount of stick he gets.
Chances get missed. As a fan of Hoskins: Jonathan; you know the 'at least he gets into the right position' excuse...

I would guess that right now only the teams safely lodged in mid-table relish the thought of taking on Brighton, 'to test their abilities against a good team.'

The lads at Bristol are desperate for points, ugly or pretty they won't care just as long as they get something, this will be a test of our abilities.

Bolton are one of the mid-table teams that will relish taking us on, they look safe, no going up and no going down, just a good opportunity to entertain their fans.

Two games where 6 points look very gettable but also two games that will not be easy and both for different reasons.

Maybe Vicente will be held back for the Bolton game, I can see that match being one of free flowing football.

With the ones we missed, we could (should) have scored 7 or 8 so Mr Robins should concentrate more on shoring up his defence instead of making excuses. I believe Hudds were the first team to beat us at home when we were promoted as champions anyway so we owed them a spanking.

Completely agree about the performance of Lopez - outstanding. He gets better every week and even had Gus in raptures after the match. The side has quality in abundance, and if we can just cultivate the cutting edge we saw yesterday, then we are in business.

Fair do's, Mark Robins. He's only doing his job. His comments are for his team and fans to boost them up into thinking they are better than they are.

He's wrong though, and they deserved to lose.

I didn't see the corner incident myself and was surprised but it sounds feasible - sure the lino/ref wouldn't make it up! (however it is surprising how many obvious corners/throw ins they miss - there was one on the East side on Saturday where the lino awarded it the wrong way and even everyone across the pitch on the West side spotted it (to give credit to the ref I believe he overruled that one - the ref had a good game and on balance was probably slightly more on Brighton's side than Huddersfield's especially with the penalty which looked fairly harsh but then there's nothing in the rules about penalties having to be a result of infringing a clear opportunity on goal - CMS was running away from goal, there was a guy on 606 a few weeks ago claiming that a defender didn't even have to make contact for a penalty to be valid as long as the attacker thought he was going to be fouled and was therefore impeded!??).

He's referring to the 2010/11 season when we only lost one game at home all season. We were already Champions when we played Huddersfield.
