Albion's opponents are red hot at home

Bristol City celebrate during their recent win over Watford Bristol City celebrate during their recent win over Watford

Bristol City are looking for a fifth successive home win tonight.

They have taken 12 points from 12 at Ashton Gate since Sean O’Driscoll arrived as manager.

High-flying Watford and play-off hopefuls Nottingham Forest have both bitten the dust in Bristol, as have Ipswich and Barnsley.

All five City goals came from set-pieces in the 5-3 defeat of Barnsley in their last home game.

O’Driscoll sets his team up in a 4-4-2 formation and has made them tough to beat.

They are unlikely to make many, if any, changes to the side which fought out a gruelling 0-0 draw in heavy going at Blackpool on Saturday.

So were Cardiff and look what happened there. 3 points tonight, no problem. 100-1 for Albion to win 4-1 with Ulloa scoring the first goal.

Saraman, I hope you're right. Just lubricating the vocal chords now.

Saraman, if only life were that simple!

Don't know what to make of tonight's game. We're in great form, but so are City at home.

Interesting to read that Gus was considering resting Leo for this game given the number of games we're playing in close proximity. Does that mean CMS is due for a start?

Three away games in eight days is a tough ask. I wouldn't be that unhappy with four points, but that would probably open the door for a few of our rivals. Anything more will be a bonus and set us up nicely for the home game with Palace.

I predict a score draw - 2:2

Bruce no way would 4 points from 9 suit me, even if we are playing away.

To fight as we did against Cardiff and earn 3 points to then go to Bristol and not get 3 would hurt.

Over the last two weeks or so I have expressed my concerns about tonight;s game, but that does not mean that I don't think we could, and should, win. Oddly enough I think Bolton game will be easier to win but still be a tough match.

If we are good enough to go up, then we have to be good enough to take 3 points tonight.

Tonight's game will not be easy, they will battle and like us they have the confidence of momentum. A defeat tonight would be a shock result and that fact alone tells of the difference between the two squads.

The first goal, like most matches, will be very important for both teams.

I didn't say it would suit me, Vegas. I would like nine! I'm just trying to be realistic.

Bristol, Bolton and Barnsley are all winnable games, but remember the old adage, win your home games and take a point on the road.

I stand corrected.

I don't think 9 from 9 is unrealistic, 7 might be the end total.

If there is any chance of us getting the second spot rather than the playoffs, then 9 is a must.

Lets hope our best efforts are saved for our home games which the great majority of supporters attend, the odd point away from home is useful but not essential in keeping us in a decent position in the league.

VegasSeagull says...
5:23pm Tue 5 Mar 13

The odd point away from home is useful, I would say that if we want to go up then 3 points are useful and, 'the odd point,' is not enough, unless we are playing those who are challeging for our top six spot.

If Gus has Leo on the bench, and starts with CMS up front, then both will think they have something to prove, CMS in the first 45 and Leo if he is put on durung the second.
But, also, Gus likes to keep his opposite number guessing as to who is going to play.
Three points would be a good springboard into the next matches.

So, if we get 3 points tonight that should satisfy the 1 point away brigade for the next 3 games. To my mind a point per game for the next 3 would not be enough at this stage of the season. 3 points tonight and I would be happy(ish) for a point each from the following 2 games. Are we now entering the season of paranoia?

Gee Whizz, this is starting to give me visions of the airplane movies. I picked the wrong time to give up smoking, I picked the wrong time to give up drinking, I picked the the wrong time to give up glue sniffing. I said that, but who said that in the movie?

7 wins and 5 losses would do.

6 wins and 2 draws 4 losses would do.

4 wins and 8 draws would do, and this one is easily achievable.

7 wins on the trott from tonight is my prefered choice though.

10 Brighton, scorer Barnes.

Forget their form imho we have to win preferably tonight ,pref draw bolton, win barnsley to keep momentum for palace game .Don't want to contemplate anything less or be in a position of having to win v palace to stay in the hunt if we want to go up. If we only get three points from these away games forget play offs . Boro back having had their bad run so no room error.

YES! I love that attitude. Bring it all on and please let's forget all this talk of 'tiredness'.

It's all in the mind!!! Our body is in our mind not the other way around. My mate is a brain surgeon and after 20 years of doing brain operations he has found all manner of things in people's brains - but, as yet, he's never found a 'mind'.

C'mon you Seagulls!

Think you have had too much sun mate, I would expect 5 points from the next three games and would be reasonably happy, any more would be a bonus.

I think that if you were to talk to a neutral supporter, maybe someone from Blackpool, and asked them who do they think will win our match, they would choose Brighton.

If we are to talk about form, well both teams are on a run. Confidence, yes both have it in bucket loads.
The difference, skills. The eleven we put out tonight compared to the City eleven, player for player we are stronger.

City don't have a Bridcutt, TK, or a Vicente, should he play. Our back five is far ahead of theirs. A tough game yes, maybe even a little scary but at the end of the day I would expect our skills to win out.

I can't wait to see our line up.

Alfie your five points would be a win and two draws. My seven would be two wins and a draw. We are not that far apart. I mention that 9 from 9 could happen, well it could when you consider our recent form.

Every match sees us getting better, Ulloa and David along with Upsom and TK just seem to get better every day.
All of the lads are starting to up their game and add the current mind set of Poyet I think anything is possible.

CMS in for Ulloa, somewhat surprising.

bruce beckett says...
7:26pm Tue 5 Mar 13

Ulloa on the bench. CMS starts. So Gus has stuck to his guns. Let's hope CMS is inspired to match Spanish Len's performance on Saturday.

wiseman of hove says...
7:33pm Tue 5 Mar 13

Not a bad ploy to start with CMS with Ulloa to take over. CMS will be really going for that long awaited goal to pep himself up for the playoff run in.

SMF20 says...
7:35pm Tue 5 Mar 13

I like the look of the team tonight.

I'm a little surprised that Leo has dropped to the bench but given he has been an ever present since arriving in January, I'm sure Gus has one eye on Saturday already.

Fantastic that Liam is back, Dicker was off the pace on Saturday and Hammond has done a good job both filling Liam's shoes and for a couple of matches prior.

Hoping for a win tonight. I think 12 points of the 15 available in March are there to be taken.

Come on lads. Uta

VegasSeagull says...
7:37pm Tue 5 Mar 13

I can see the logic but don't you start with the form player for 45 minutes and then go to CMS, the out of form player?

Taking the chance to rest Ulloa is understandable but if we are level come the second half Ulloa will come on. I just hope CMS bags a couple. If this game ends up as a bunch of missed chances Poyet will come in for some stick.

I admire your optimism Vegas, lets see the tally after the Barnsley game, would love more than 5 points, I see it as a draw tonight and Saturday, and a win at Barnsley.
