Bridcutt called up by Scotland

Liam Bridcutt has been called up for the World Cup qualifiers Liam Bridcutt has been called up for the World Cup qualifiers

Albion midfielder Liam Bridcutt has been called up by Scotland for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Serbia.

Bridcutt's selection follows his consistently influential performances for the Seagulls as a defensive midfielder. Bridcutt qualifies for Scotland through a grandparent.

He was watched by new Scotland manager Gordon Strachan and his assistant, former Albion boss Mark McGhee, in Albion's recent draw at Blackburn Rovers.

Unless Liam really does want to represent Scotland rather than using it as a quick route in to international football I think this is a massive mistake.

He has the ability to be a fully established England international in my opinion.

About time! This'll add a nought or two to his eventual transfer fee!! Way to go, Liam - long overdue.

Pleased for you Liam, and if the England selectors didn't see what we and the selectors of Scotland see, well that's their loss.

You obviously think there is huge kudos in playing for England. The way they play suggests I might get called up myself

He won't get an England call-up unless he plays for one of the big 6 clubs in the Prem. Given the amount of time for even Scotland to realise his ability (not a nation awash with talent), do you really think England will?

Yes, of course there is huge kudos to playing for the - what are we? - 4th ranked international team in the world? To think otherwise is nonsense, unless you're not English or hate football.

This had to happen at some point. Good move by Strachan. There is a lot of competition for the midfield positions for England but I don't think Bridcutt would look out of place in a top six Premiership team and so therefore possibly England at some point.

Would think he could fit straight in to the Scotland side in that position in front of the back 4. Scotland will play 5 in midfield most games too.

Good luck, Liam. Very well deserved!

I think he could make an England squad in the near future, Hodgson won't care which club he plays for, even Palace players have had a look in recently.
Representing Scotland is not to be sniffed at though, and is more likely to become a regular selection.
He will still get the chance to play against some of the worlds best, and show that he can compete with them.

Just look how far down the pecking order he'd be for England. You could easily name a dozen players ahead of him.

surely he would have been informally asked if he'd represent Scotland before they added him to the squad, so i would imagine his decision is already made. he's going to represent scotland and the very best of luck to him. marvellous player. a better than david batty, david batty, perhaps?

You really think that England are the 4th best team in the world ? If that's so why do we never win - or even come anywhere near to winning - any major trophy ? Why are we regularly beaten by teams who are supposedly much worse than us ? Why do some England players seem to have no pride in wearing the shirt ? If you really think that England are the fourth best team in the world then frankly you are a deluded fool.

Why has this only just happened? I don't mean to be rude but the Scotland international team isn't that great and could of done with him last year ( good work Gordon). He has been the best and most consistant player of the past two seasons at the AMEX and deserves this chance. I would rather see him wih the three lions on his badge but really happy for he lad. If Brighton don't make the premiership I think he will be off and why not he is too good for the championship. Lets hope they go up together.

England regularly qualify for World Cups etc and have half a go when we're there (yes we've been disappointing, players paid too much, Wags etc etc). Quite frankly with a little more luck and better management of expectations, not to mention the strange decisions by the FA, then we may have faired a little better.
Scotland have been an international Joke since the mid nineties and have not qualified for a tournament since.
If i were Scottish, i would however be honoured to play for my country, as i would if i were from Togo or the Faroe Islands...
Liam has been outstanding for the past two seasons and has made a choice. And deserves recognition from whatever quarter.

Firstly, England ARE rated the 4th best side in the world, whether you like it or not. Secondly, they are ranked high ebcause, over the past 15-20 years they have constantly been in the world's top 10, because of an exemplary record of qualifying for major tournaments. They many not have won any but are consitently good, whereas more successful teams like France burn brightly, win something, then disappear again.

If you can't understand something this complicated, maybe look to Andy Murray who was ranked 4th for AGES before he won anything. Maybe you should try to understand stuff a bit better before you start accusing people of being deluded fool. Pot. Kettle.

Liam has weighed up his options and made his decision
He knows full welll that the midfield places in the England set up are probably the hardest to break into at any level

By making himself available for Scotland
he will get games and be recognised.

I respect his decision and wish him well
Hugely deserved
