Signing shows Crawley will not give up on play-off dream

Boss Richie Barker says the signing of Paul Hayes shows Crawley are not ready to give up on the play-offs yet.

Hayes is set to make his debut at Yeovil Town tonight after joining on a month’s loan from League One rivals Brentford yesterday.

Reds go into the game at Huish Park ten points outside the top six but Barker believes the arrival of Hayes could give them the cutting edge they need to close that gap over the coming weeks.

Barker said: “We didn’t want to get to the end of the season and say ‘what if?’ If we do end up falling short then I can assure everyone it won’t be for the want of trying.

“Until it is mathematically impossible (to reach the play-offs) then we are going to give it the best go we can. That is why we have brought in Paul because the next few weeks are crucial if we are going to stay in contention and he could make a difference.

“I had to convince the board that we still had an opportunity to get in the play-offs. They took a little bit of persuading but as it is only for a month it is not a huge risk and the rewards could be huge.”
