Bridge on course for Palace

Wayne Bridge, expects to be fit to face Palace Wayne Bridge, expects to be fit to face Palace

Albion's defensive crisis is set to be eased by the return of Wayne Bridge from hamstring problems for Sunday's derby against Crystal Palace.

The former England left-back is certain he will be fit for the Eagles' visit to The Amex and Vicente could be back in contention too but right-back Bruno (calf and Achilles) will be missing.

Manager Gus Poyet revealed: "Bridgey is 100 per cent sure he will be there. Probably Vicente as well will be there. We'll see. Tomorrow is the confirmation day."

Inigo Calderon is likely to replace Bruno, while captain Gordon Greer takes over from the suspended Adam El-Abd at centre-half.

Albion have recalled left-back Marcos Painter from his loan spell at Bournemouth as defensive cover.

Sidelined top scorer Craig Mackail-Smith is expected to be at the Palace game after surgery in Finland on Monday to repair a ruptured Achilles, which will rule him out until pre-season.

Poyet said: "Everything went fine. He is coming back before the weekend."

I hear that Jess Whitmore from Livingston is a possible striker target. The Bermuda players is out of contract and on a rolling pay as you play deal. He's a youngester so maybe it's yet another player to add to the hardly-ever-used development team! Quite a few Championship clubs interested in him.

Great news. Bridge has been just about our most consistent high performer this season. I quite fancy that he'll score on sunday. Hopefully for the Albion :)

Good news about Bridge, I just hope that he is 100% recovered.

If Vicente is also available that would be a bonus.

Whitmore, well if he is as good as some might think then he would be a good addition to the DS. We do seem to be upping the caliber of those we are signing for the DS.

I am losing interest in the possibility of getting a couple of loan strikers. We might find the money but the insistence of the loanees playing every game is too much for me.
If we got two loanees from two clubs that would mean that three managers are deciding our line up, totally unacceptable to my mind, and what would that mean to Ulloa.

Two loan deals with no strings attached is what we need and it appears those deals are not forthcoming.

With the proposed back four I fill confident ahead of the game. Its now or never. The great thing is even though we messed up against two struggling teams away, we still have a chance to get some six pointers in the bag against our promotion rivals.

If we don't step up now, the best we can hope for is seventh.

Time to take the bull by the horns

The game is being played at that time so that fans don't get too drunk and increase the possibility of crowd trouble.

A timely boost indeed. Now if we can just get a striker on loan to partner/cover Ulloa then things will be really looking up for Sunday. Surely someone owes Gus a favour?

Someone should remind the cops of a certain thing called 24 hours opening,or takeaways,if people want a drink they will have one regardless. Not to televise this game is stupidity on the part of sky,we have been shown twice in the league all season, there are teams below us that are in double figures.

Thanks for that AG T999,bit pathetic isnt it as if there could be any trouble.Been to London for matches on Saturdays and there are all sorts of London fans mobbing about, all worse off for alcohol and hardly any trouble at all. After the Boxing day postponement its seems we are being molycodled, like we cant look after ourselves.

I have mixed feelings about our game against Palace.

It's the, 'big one,' so my excitement levels are rising.

We know that they are a good team and that they know how to score, that somewhat tempers my excitement levels.

We are short on fire power but it looks like we will have bridge back and maybe Vicente too, levels are rising again.

We need to win six matches, so says Gus, this is the, 'new first,' of those six, now thinking about the Bristol and Barsley results, levels on the dip now.

Palace don't have the number of senior players missing that we have, dipping further.

The manager of Palace has said that he wants to keep us out of the top six on sunday, levels soaring back up, bring it on pal.

Promising news all round, boy do we all need it. Interesting ref : Talk sport and Gus may have under achieved with money he has had .I do partly agree, was chatting to a palace fan today (I know ,shouldn't have) . his season ticket( top seats) would work out at £20 a game, his 10 yr old gets in free, 10 to 16 yr old £3. Wait for it if they get promoted prices have been fixed.
Take away all obvious ,it is palace etc etc. We have a new ground to pay for etc.
We have all helped to supply considerably more money to the club along with big av crowds ,thus more money for Gus to spend. Refering back to talk sport chat they may have a point!

Well that killed this thread off.

For what it's worth he is an Albion hero, who ended up being the pantomime villain.

He had a great offer, we told him to take it and he reluctantly did.

At the end of the day £11k a week was good business for a league 1 player and they may only have one chance in their career.

I know he went to Palace but he is no different to Bobby Zamora and we wouldn’t give him a hard time.

When he scores against us, which is quite a lot, he never celebrates. He even avoided taking the penalty against us in the last game because he didn’t want to make it a hat trick.

He should be applauded at the Amex really.

I only brought subject up as it is that time, renewal and a previous poster mentioning about a talk sport discussion yesterday relative to Gus under forming with the money he has spent?
Renewal if you want to have the same seat has to be signed up for I think by the end of the month hence why it might be topical.
