Ulloa's delight at 'classic' derby win
4:30pm Sunday 17th March 2013 in Sport By Brian Owen
Leo Ulloa shows his delight after bagging his second goal (photo Simon Dack)
Two-goal Leo Ulloa is savouring victory for Albion in their “clasico”.
The big Argentinian was on target in either half of the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at The Amex.
It was a perfect way to bounce back from a series of one point from three away games.
Ulloa said: “I’m very happy. We had just come off a defeat, we’d not taken the points we needed.
“We’ve won an important match, a clasico.
“I’m happy with the win and with the goals.”

Great, fantastic, but why couldn't it have been like this in the last two games against poor opposion? Still too late for playoffs/promotion. Not consistent enough. Nice to put one over Palace though.

Poor first 40 minutes today and would have been glad to get to half time at 0-0. First two goals changed the match totally and 3-0 was about right in the end. Palace edged the first half but folded once the third goal went in.
One further thought - the referee was excellent today. Got all the key decisions right and did not overdo the bookings. Gave the game the chance to flow but was still on the ball when things threatened to spill over. I hope Gus has the good grace to congratulate him on his performance after his unnecessary comments earlier in the week.

What a difference today. If we had played with the same attacking format as today during the season we would be securely in the top 6 by now.
Lets hope Gus has learned from today. In my experience all the best footballing sides play with wide men that stretches the opposition and stops their defence from coming too far forward.
Its not rocket science.
Lets hope its not to late for this season.
Very well played today against a good team. It shows we have the players to do the job.
I hope we keep the same team for the next match so we can get some consistency and the players can get more familiar with each others ability.

Not many games to go, in with a shout, beat Palarse 3-0 with a brace from Murray's overdue replacement. Happy 'king days people, Happy days.
Lua Lua wants to play. Best game in an Albion shirt. Chased back, tackled and still had time to display his formerly one trick pony. We gave some possession in the first half at the expense of better attacking options and effectively caught them on the break.Passion was in evidence throughout. A good day, if not a great day. Anything could happen with the way this league is shaping up. fun isn't it (unless you want to win every game like you do on FIFA or Football manager).

A great afternoon, great atmosphere and great result. Fantastic contribution by all the Spanish speakers in the team. I somehow cant imagine the team without them now. Orlandi and Lopez get better every game I see them. Well done everyone but understand that you have to repeat this kind of performance away from the Amex too if you want to play at Wembley at the end of the season. But for now, I'm sitting at home glowing with pride at a good afternoons entertainment and three very welcome points.

Seriously though it's good to see us wanting more goals once the first went in.
Another point, Ulloa is actually better than what we ever thought he could be. He has won the best Spanish goal scorer award and is flying off to Spain to collect it now.

All week I've been reading the 'regular' moaners on here, vegas, MBTS etc and they were all banging on about Murray (7 goals last season!) and slagging Poyet. Funny how quiet they are when we win. True fans? No, we read their cr*p and laugh, we have been supporters our whole lives and know.
If you class supporters expressing their opinions as "moaners" then you are very misguided. Vegas and MBTS want the same as you – Premier League football one day. Gus got it right today with his team selection but on some occasions this season, he has been too cautious. 38th game of the season before we play two wingers together. What a difference it made. UTA!

Take off the blue and white specs for a moment. Is Ulloa better than Murray. Judging Ulloa on his first ten games, and Murray on what we know of him, who's the best all round player?
Personally still undecied, but I thought Ulloa has been ****ing superb so far. Today he was immense. Not just his goals, but his tracking back, his williness to play for the team, not just himself. Think we might have unearthed something special here!!
Having said that, still thought Lua Lua was MOM today. Best I've seen from him for ages, and just makes you wonder why he is so under used.
Brilliant day!!

Great result, great football, great atmosphere, Alloa is great too! Makes me wonder where we would be if Alloa had been here from the start and how many extra points we would have got if Gus had been more positive in his tactics! It's back in our hands again and like many on here say, same line up against Forest please. I did not expect this result, in fact I feared the opposite scoreline, so very happy today. U.T.A!
Alloa I believe is a female oriented face cream, not to be confused with a great footballing center forward.
Hope that helps. Our great manager Sug Yopet signed hime recently.

Well done Ulloa - just seem to be getting better and better. Overall play excellent and two good striker's goals. Moving towards legendary status at a rapid pace.

This was a tactical ploy and from then on barring any mistakes we were always in control, this was about tactics and Gus should take the plaudits for getting it right.
Agree re ref one of the bes performances from an official I have seen this season.

No many posters on croydon sites either ,where have they gone.?
Those that have posted have actually been very complimentary towards albion, all credit to them.
Does not seem Hollaway their favorite, funny how fickle us fans can be ,his team not doing so badly either.
Dread to think what it would be like if we were at the bottom of the table!

Excellent performance from Albion. Now right back in the play off mix with 6pointer games coming up. Only thing that saddens me is crowd. Having watched England v Wales rugby on the TV on Saturday, where rival supporters show passion and sit together, and respectul silences when penalty kicks are taken, had to Explain to my grandson why Saha and Murray were booed from the beginning. And as to the "witty" chants, are you taking the proverbial?

The tactics were right, the right players were on the park to play to the tactics and Palace didn't get to enforce their game plan.
Holloway said he was happy to allow us to keep the ball, he knew we would, it seems this was part of his game plan, so at least that part of their plan worked. The rest of his plan, not so good.
Ulloa deserves the plaudits for his two goals, and Dvid for his excellent free kick conversion but let's not forget the other guys.
A big shout our to those that shut down Murray and kept a tight rein on Zaha.
A great all round performance by the team and the manager.

Last year was last year, this year is the one that matters now.
I was fearful before the Palace game, our results at Bristol, Barnsley and Bolton didn't fill me with confidence, but I would guess that thousands of Brighton fans were also fearful.
That's not moaning, that's being honest. Blind faith is reserved for church.
