Leo to celebrate his double with the Special One

David celebrates after his free-kick strike David celebrates after his free-kick strike

LEO ULLOA will celebrate his derby double by rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s biggest stars.

The striker bounced back from the despair of seeing a penalty saved at Barnsley in midweek to lead the Seagulls’ memorable defeat of Crystal Palace.

He is in Madrid today along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho, among others, to receive the Marca award as top goalscorer in the Spanish second tier last season.

Ulloa savoured derby success and said: “I’m as happy about the win as the goals.

“I was angry at Barnsley because the team would have brought back a point but we didn’t because I missed the penalty.

“But I got my head back up and started thinking positively about what was coming.”

Ulloa is producing the sort of goalgetting form which made him hot property with Almeria last season.

He added: “They will give me the prize as ‘pichichi’ in the second division and that is a really nice award to get.”

David was also on target but admitted he had to persuade Andrea Orlandi to let him take the free-kick which put Albion 2-0 up.

The midfielder said: “We both wanted to take it. Andrea is more left-footed but I saw it more clearly on my side and luckily it went in.

“Free-kicks are like that. You hit them perfectly or they don’t go in.”

We could not have signed anyone better, 8 goals in 11 games in reality surpasses the hope we had in Ulloa. With all these names flying around before we signed him, he was the best one and was not even mentioned.

For all those hoping for Gus and TB to get it wrong, you can all sit and swivel.

Crystal Palace won't be looking forward to playing us in the playoffs, all we need to do now is send out the same message to Nottm F and Leicester.

Even for the most dedicated wum and troll this must be very hard to take, ha, brain dead mugs without footballing brains, ha

I tried to buy a breakfast pie ten minutes before kick off but they had sold out so I had to resort to a cheeseburger. That was fine, but the patty was a little chard on the outside. That said, the bun was fresh and with a little ketchup and mustard, it went down well with my Harvey's. My Dad had a black coffee because he's given up dairy. Given Ulloa ended up parked at Almeria, despite the previous season's success, I imagine he's having to pinch himself at what's happened, much as we are...
He seems to be enjoying it here, anyway - and he genuinely seems to care. I agree with others, in that he could well become something of an Albion legend if he carries on like this - and sticks around.

So pleased Gus decided to play WB and KLL, it's exactly the team that I've been wanting to see for ages now and...it worked!!

Atmosphere was absolutely cracking in the Amex yesterday and the boys definitely delivered. As written on other posts Kaz was absolutely immense especially when tracking back and making important tackles. Ulloa as everyone now knows looks like a great player and deadly in front of goal, things are certainly looking good at the moment!

Special mention to to Inigo Calderon as well - whenever he's called upon he comes out with a top notch performance and I think he would be my first choice right back now.

Anyway, on to Forrest!

Yes funny yesterday, I thought the team sheet was about the best 11 we could field, caldi is a class act, same as GG , no sulking demanding transfers, moaning .. Just work harder, thought the back 5 were outstanding, upson needs to be signed with bridge ASAP, both a class above.
Lua lua created the uncertainty that led to the third goal, pace pushes defenders back, which allowed The space for the cushion header to ulloa, lets hope Gus goes on the attack at forest, mainly the weather improves and we see Vicente again, ( not sure where he would now play)

It's a tricky one , ulloa has yet to really settle, the game is so different here, plus language, but the language of scoring goals is universal .. I suspect there is a lot lot more to come from him, give him a good pre season, chance to get to grips with the language, and this guy will score 20 plus even on a bad season.. Technically excellent, really hard worker.. And seems a genuine nice guy from interviews . This guy will be the new legend if we can keep the claws of west ham and Cardiff away .

Thought the ref had a pretty good game yesterday but I felt the linesman on the West side was well out of his depth. He seemed to delay so long about the direction to award a throw that I really think he was guessing. Did anyone see that corner that wasn't where Buckley drove it into the left back's legs. I can only conclude that the pressure makes the officials' jobs so much more difficult than it appears from the stands - I can't think of any other reason to explain the numerous decisions that are called wrong.

Ironic how the multitude of injuries and suspensions has led to what quite a few posters, including Mark by the Sea, have termed "the best 11 we could field". My only caveat would potentially be Vicente for Orlandi, and Bruno for Calde. It is hard to imagine our best 11 not having Vicente in it but encouraging for the future that alot of our best performances have been without him. Maybe, as others have suggested before, he is just too much on another level to gel with the rest of the team (I think you could drop him into Man City or Arsenal for Silva or Carzola and he'd fit in). Didn't we go 10 games without winning at the end of last season when Vicente was fit? If Lua Lua retains his place, which I think he should, it looks like Vicente might remain the high impact sub for the rest of the season?

Yep, it was a complete team performance and we shut out any threat and took the above mentioned out of the game.

Kuzs, Calde, Greer, Upson and Bridge, what a great back 5. Really pleased for Calde, probably our most improved original player and still getting better.

Orlandi and David working it between them, With KLL and Buckley storming.

Great day yesterday, all around me were very nervous, and for the first time this season I doubted we would even get a point. Leo was top drawer, liked him the first time I saw him play, he's gutsy too, which is a great attribute for a centre forward.

Palace I thought were very poor, Zaha beat the same player three times then passed it and moaned when his own players didn't get to it. Perhaps his head is in Manchester already.

Kaz, on the other hand did what all good wingers need to do, beat his full back and get quality balls into the box. Think he deserves a starting spot on his last two performances.

I see that the speculation regarding where Gus might or might not park his car in the coming months has sparked off again.

The idea that he would go to Reading seems highly unlikely, why would he they will be in the Championship division next year.

The Chelsea job, just don't see that happening. Gus has proven himself at our level and below but to make such a step up now could be disasterous for him and for Chelsea.
If Gus can get us promoted and keep us promoted for a couple of seasons maybe then he could move up.
It is my guess that working with players at our level and working with those at the top of our game would be quite different.

My hope, and to some degree my expectation, is that Gus will want to finish what he has started.
The new facility opens in time for next season and there will be many young lads arriving as the months pass, that should excite Gus. The new training facility will also give Gus the chance to train the squad perhaps in ways he has not been able to.
I see what is happening at the club as very much a joint venture between Gus and Bloom, I just can't see Gus wanting to walk away from all that is to come. Would he go if the offer and club making the offer were big enough, yep he would but I don't see that offer coming in just yet.

There is a mountain of work to be got through this summer. Some players to release, some to sell and some to get new contracts. Young players in the acadamy futures with the club to be decided, new young players to come in. Transfer targets to be identified and some to be bought, all that and more on top of what will be needed if we get promoted or even if we don't.

I would imagine the Dutch guy virgil will be number one target, a midfielder who can open the game up, after that who knows ? I don't think we are far off now, lua lua I really hope now knows what is expected, Buckley slowly coming back to form, I suppose subject to virgil coming is does he keep elabd, GG upson , the story released on twitter that dunk had signed new contract is not confirmed? I understand he turned down a doubling of his money, plus add ons if club get promoted, sadly he thinks he is worth double that, without proving anything.

Old Scrote of the Amex says...
11:42pm Mon 18 Mar 13

We'll need four first-team capable centre backs, so a lot will depend on whether we can persuade Upson to sign permanently, assuming of course that Gus fancies him on a longer term contract. Dunk and Virgil seems a decent longer term proposition, but again depends on getting their signatures. I'd like ti think that Bridge might choose to hang about for another season or more - the guy is pure class though and too good for this division.

I'm not sure which kind of midfielders have been on Gus's radar, but a lot of people rate Trotter.

Well me for one was Very pleased to see a stable defense and my hero was Gordon Greer fitted in the back four and looked good alongside Upson..Good Defense sorted, midfield sorted and forwards sorted with cover for Leo being sorted Premier here we come.
Leo has scored more goals than Palace forwards if you take Murray's 30 goals out of the equation.
