Albion prospect joins Yeovil

Albion development squad defender Vitalijs Maksimenko is joining Yeovil's League One promotion challenge.

The 22-year-old Latvian international prospect has been snapped up by the Somerset club on a month's loan and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow night's clash at home to fellow promotion hopefuls Swindon Town.

Albion bought left-sided Maksimenko in January from Skonto Riga for an undisclosed fee.

Yeovil chief and former Latvia manager Gary Johnson told thisissomerset.co.uk: "He's a strong lad, he's quick, he's left-footed and he's got himself in the Latvia national team. He speaks good English so all that's fine.

"He's a good lad and hopefully he will get his opportunity if and when any of ours get another booking. We have got Jamie McAllister and Byron Webster on ten so hopefully we can keep them on the pitch as long as possible but we have got cover.

"Skonto has got a good youth set-up, they teach them well and he does look like he's ahead of the game on the coaching side. He's certainly a bright one and the lights are on."

Hopefully he will get some playing time down there - also be nice for him to be involved with a team in contention for the play-offs / promotion.

Hopefully as many minutes as possible, we'll need him next year when we lose Bridge

Your wrong, bridge is really enjoying his football, and enjoys the south coast too, he certainly does not need the money, could retire after his 3 year at 5 million a year deal!

Gus was very positive about getting Bridge signed up for next season after yesterday's game. Assume Maksimenko will be Bridge's back-up next season if this happens.

Gary Johnson is a good manager and has been for many a year.

I would suggest that we have got a future star on the books here given that Gary is confident enough to take him on board and throwing him straight in to a promotion battle.

Good coup by the recruitment team I think.

Can play either - most web profiles refer to him as a left back.

Quite right Mark about Bridge, anyway onto topic
This lad ticks all the right boxes for us but at 22 needs to play in competetive matches at a higher level than DS reserves
I think this is a very smart move for him and BHA.
He will play in games that are decisive and meaningful and get a chance to shine.
Strong left footed defenders are hard to come by
Wish VM all the best,

Excellent temporary move for Vitali. Manager Gary Johnson is very well known and highly rated in Latvia and the move gives the player the opportunity to enjoy playing to a good standard and in a highly competitive league. I note the match against Swindon tonight is being shown live on Sky.
