Sussex are praying for good weather in Leeds tomorrow after moving to the brink of victory against Yorkshire.

But they would be heading home victorious already if it were not for a stubborn eighth-wicket partnership by the home side.

Yorkshire will resume on 228-8 – still 32 runs short of making Sussex bat again – when the fourth day starts.

Gary Ballance remains in place on 46 not out having helped Ryan Sidebottom (48) put on 81 for the eighth wicket after Yorkshire were reduced to 140-7.

Steve Magoffin led the way for Sussex with 4-50 while James Anyon claimed 3-59 before bad light forced an early finish.

Rain is not expected to arrive in the Leeds area tomorrow until mid to late afternoon.
