Wright played through pain for ton
Sussex looked doomed to a heavy defeat when they slumped to 45-4 against Middlesex at Hove yesterday before Wright made an unbeaten 151 to help them to 288-6 at close of play, a lead of 21.
Wright will need to continue his heroics today if Sussex are to avoid defeat but Robinson revealed he probably should not be playing at all due to a knee injury which had kept him out of the last two t20 matches.
Robinson said: “I am full of admiration for Luke. The physio didn’t want him to play but he was desperate to give it a go. He’s in pain and there is a danger he could make it worse but that shows how selfless he is because he was willing to risk it for the sake of the team.”
Wright put on century partnerships with Ed Joyce and Ben Brown and will have done his international prospect no hard with England one-day coach Ashley Giles watching at Hove.
Robinson added: ““He has played magnificently. He had a rampant England fast bowler (Steven Finn) steaming down the hill at him but he stood firm.
“We’ve played poorly in the first two days and it is disappointing we have only turned up on day three but at least we have given ourselves a chance. The odds would say we can’t get out of it but you never know.”
