Sussex duo shine at Olympic Stadium
Charlie Grice and Lee Emanuel both produced stunning runs at the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium today.
The Sussex duo smashed their personal bests in the Emsley Carr Mile to climb to second and third in the UK rankings.
Grice, from Brighton, got the better of Emanuel, who had beaten him in their last two outings, as he came 13th in 3min.54.61sec - wiping more than three seconds off his lifetime best.
Emanuel, from Hastings, was just behind him in 14th place in 3min.54.75sec - almost three seconds quicker than his previous best set back in 2010.
The pair were the top British runners in a lightning fast race won by Kiprono Choge in 3min.50.01sec. Only Chris O'Hare has run quicker over a mile for a British athlete this year.
Meanwhile, Seb Rodger, from Eastbourne, ran the third fastest time of his career as he finished eighth out of nine in the 400m hurdles.
Rodger's hopes of improving his personal best were ruined, however, when he hit a hurdle hard and crossed the line in 49.64sec.
Despite finishing well off the pace Rodger will have learned a lot from the experience of racing on the big stage ahead of the World Championships next month.
