Sussex v Australia LIVE
This live event has finished
- Australia made 366-5 declared in their first innings with Steve Smith unbeaten on 102
- Sussex made 368-7 after their 100 overs, James Taylor scoring 121 not out
That's it from me. Off to see if I can grab a word with Monty. Report now up at www.theargus.co.uk/sport. Reaction and pcitures in The Argus tomorrow. I'll be back on Wednesday for t20 v Kent
And that's it. Captains Nash and Cowan shake hands on a draw with 16 overs to go. Australia finished on 152-2, Cowan 77 and Wade 30.
Clock ticks around past 5.15pm. How many more overs are we going to get? At least one as there is no sign of any handshaking going on. Cowan's on 75 so he doesn't seem to be getting on with it in the hope of making a century.
RHB serving up a few pies. Was hit for six by Cowan in the last over and now Wade despatches a full toss over the ropes on the leg side. Cowan is on 72 now. Hope they don't keep going especially for him to make a hundred
RHB on to bowl in place of Nash at the sea end now. I'll have to check but think this might be his first bowl in first class cricket since his return to Hove in the winter.
I've been reliably informed the teams are going to shake hands on a draw at 5.20pm.
Nash going to have a bowl now in place of Hatchett. Rumours they might keep this going until 5.30pm as there's still plenty of people here. Hope those rumours are wrong as I've still got to speak to Monty and James Taylor and then write up all my stuff for tomorrow's paper.
Cowan brings up his 2nd half century of the match by cutting Monty to the cover point boundary. Also brings up the 100 for Australia. Cowan has looked good in this game but doesn't seem to be getting a mention in terms of Old Trafford
Hatchett strikes again. Traps Hughes lbw for 38. That could be it for Hughes in terms of the next Test. Aussie journos reckon Warner will replace him at Old Trafford. Fine bowling from Hatchett again
There you go Franckie. Is that better?

Try updating the score @ the top.
We're off again after tea. Still a fair few at Hove so hopefully they'll have some wickets to celebrate. Been a bit dull today if I'm honest. Hatchett back into the attack. Be nice if he could get another scalp as he's bowled well. Monty - whose bowling from the top end - would't mind a wicket or two either. Aus 85-1
Sorry for the lack of updates. Been 'up top' enjoying the carnival atmosphere. Monty interacting with the crowd on the boundary and the Barmy Army trumpeter playing Sussex By The Sea. Nice the spectators are having a laugh as there's not too much to get excited about in the middle. Australia 78-1 at tea. Cowan on 40 and Hughes 32. Monty's had a twirl, Jordan smacked Hughes on the helmet with a bouncer. Not much else to report. They'll probably shake hands on the draw at about 5.50pm
Raynor was in 2006

Don't forget Ollie Rayner, the first debutant to get a century since 1920.
Just been told it's free entry after tea today so why not get down here. Not sure they'll be too much to see but you'll get an hour and a half of action and maybe see Monty bowl a couple of Aussies out! The tourists have moved on to 43-1 after 12 overs here, Cowan 21, Hughes 19
James Taylor is the 14th player to have scored a century on his first class debut for Sussex. The last were Joe Gatting and Piyush Chawla in 2009
Huge lbw shout from Hatchett as he smashes Hughes on the pad first ball. They all went up but the man who mattered didn't raise his finger. Heart in the mouth time for Hughes who probably needs a few runs to cement his place for OT. Fine bowling from Hatchett again though
Khawaja goes for just one. That won't do his prospects of playing at OT any good at all. Defensive shot to a ball from Hatchett that left him and edged to Jordan at first slip. Aus 6-1
Cowan off the mark with an edge which flies wide of third slip for four. Hatchett causing a few problems again
Cowan and Khawaja to open the batting for Australia. Wonder what that means.
That's it. Sussex finish their 100 overs on 368-7, a lead of 2 runs. Taylor unbeaten on 121 from 253 balls!!!! and Hatchett 15 not out. Little joy for the Aussie bowlers today. Starc got the wicket of Jordan with a nice ball and had the edge on Bird this morning. Bird was the better of the two yesterday so not sure where that leaves the Aussies as they decide who to choose to replace Pattinson. Lyon did eventually get a wicket but 1-99 is hardly convincing. He did pull it back pretty well after being mauled by RHB yesterday though and impressed more than Agar.
He's certainly not lighting up Hove carisbrooke. Dogged is the only word for it. He's scratched around and whenever he's gone for an attacking shot has not looked convincing. In contrast RHB thrashed it all aroudn the ground yesterday. Got lucky a few times but really took the attack to the Aussie spinners

Sounds like Taylor is boring his way into the England team. The Independent reporter thought RHB looked a lot more like KP.
Here we go after lunch and there has been no declaration. Bit surprised as Sussex only have another 6 of their 100 overs. What's the point in carrying on? Thought the Aussies would want to give their batsmen more time in the middle
Great stat. James Taylor has faced more balls in this innings (233) than any Australian has faced in the Ashes so far (232)! Showing them how it is done
Real mixture from Turner. Gets leading edge off Taylor 1st ball and another edge which falls just short of slip but dragged two long hops down which were despatched to the boundary. Might be his only over of the game too as that's lunch. Reckon Sussex will declare during the break on 351-7. Taylor 112, Hatchett 8
Ashton Turner gets an over before lunch. First action of the game for the Chichester Priory spinner.
Taylor finally gets to his century with a nice 4 through the covers off Lyon. Good shot. Been one of the few he has played. Admire his ability to stay there and grind it out when he is obviously not at his fluent best. Taken him all of 233 balls to reach his hundred with only 11 fours on what is a lightning quick outfield. Final over before lunch when I expect the declaration to come. Sussex 341-7
Stories on Monty Panesar's England call-up and 2 Sussex players being further investigated for match-fixing can be found at www.theargus.co.uk/sport
Jackson goes for an impressive 26 on his first class debut. Trapped lbw by Lyons the ball after smashing him for a straight six. Sussex 322-7. Taylor still dawdling along on 95 from 225 balls - yes that's right 225 balls. Yaaaaaawn! Hatchett the new man
DROP. Taylor gets a reprieve as he is put down by Agar. Went for an uncharacteristic slog across the line, got a leading edge and it skied to Agar at long on. He seemed to get in a good position to take the catch running back but couldn't hold on. Taylor scampers a single to move to 91. Lyon can't believe it. He's still not got a wicket. 301-6
New ball available but Aussies not take it yet. Lyon continuing in his search for a wicket
Taylor still grinding away. Couple of boundaries this morning but otherwise he's been predictably dogged. Added 20 runs this morning in 27 overs so hardly putting his foot down. Needs another 16 for his century. Callum Jackson on 7 at the other end. Sussex 288-6
Callum Jackson off the mark. He'll be relieved at that. Taylor still scratching around at the other end. Hardly a like-for-like replacement if KP isn't fit for OT
Jordan falls just short of his 50. Starc got one to nip back through the gate and knock out his leg stump. Good pace from the Aussie. Seemed to be slow down on it. Scored a good 47 in a partnership of 82 with Taylor. Callum Jackson is the new man in what is his first innings in first class cricket. Sussex 267-6
In other news it has been reported in the Mail on Sunday this morning that the ECB is still investigating allegations of match-fixing in Sussex's Pro40 game v Kent at Hove in August 2011. The ICC dropped the case due to lack of evidence but the ECB is seeking clarification from 2 Sussex players who featured in the game. The allegations were first made in the book Bookie, Gambler, Fixer, Spy which said the outcome of the game was fixed in favour of a Kent victory
Starc to open the bowling down the hill. Didn't think he was great yesterday. Far too many bouncers sent sailing over the batsman's head.
Welcome to Hove. It's pretty cloudy overhead but dry so we'll get underway on time. Humid too so should suit swing bowling. That's not good news for James Taylor who will be keen to go on to make a 100 to celebrate being called up into the Test squad. Monty Panesar is also in there with Matt Prior so you could claim Sussex have three England players in the team! Robbo predicted Monty would be picked for OT but I was still a little surprised. He hasn't pulled up any trees this season but has looked a lot better in the last few weeks and has an exceptional record in Manchester.
