Eagles new boy stars on debut
New signing Mikkel Michelsen enjoyed a dream debut as Eastbourne stunned Elite League high-flyers Birmingham tonight.
The young Dane won heat one and was paid for 13 points from six rides to help Eagles to a 51-41 success at Arlington.
He capped his night in style by helping compatriot Bjarne Pedersen to a 5-1 over Danny King and Chris Harris which ensured Eagles took all three points on offer.
Harris was excellent until crashing out of the nominated race, winning all four of his programmed rides in style.
But Eagles had a happy knack of keeping out of last place and they limited Brummies to just two heat advantages – both 5-1s.
They even forced Birmingham to use a tactical rider for the first time this season.
Timo Lahti ensured it brought them only limited reward as he got across from gate four and beat double-points man Jason Doyle.
That was part of a 13-point haul for the Finn, now back at reserve.
Eagles: Lahti 13 (6), Michelsen 11+2 (6), Pedersen 10+1 (5), Woodward 7+2 (5), Nilsson 6+3 (4), Gustafsson 4+1 (4), Dryml r/r.
Birmingham: Harris 12 (5), King 10+1 (5), Doyle 9^ (4), Barker 6 (4), Auty 3+1 (5), Smolinski 1 (4), Covatti 0 (3)
