Reds ace targets another cup run
Nicky Adams wants Crawley to taste some more big nights of cup football this season.
Reds beat Championship sides Millwall and Bolton Wanderers in the Capital One Cup last season before giving Premier League outfit Swansea City a scare in the third round.
Swansea, who squeezed through despite trailing 2-1 at the Broadfield Stadium, went on to lift the trophy by beating Bradford City at Wembley Stadium.
Adams says the fact Bradford, then in League Two, got to the final should give Crawley inspiration of what can be achieved in the competition.
Reds start out on the long road to Wembley tonight when they take on Cheltenham Town in the first round at Whaddon Road.
Adams admits it is tempting to contemplate the prospect of glory in the competition but is also wary of looking too far ahead. He said: “If we can win tonight you never know who you might get in the next round. If we can get through, draw someone here and beat them you never know, it could take you all the way.
“Look at what Bradford did last year. They showed that teams from the lower division have a chance to do well in this competition.
“If you get a bit of luck and have got a great team spirit like we have it can take you a long way but we have got to go to Cheltenham and do the business first. “They will be a good side and we will be treating them as we would if we were playing a Championship or Premier League side because if we beat them you have a chance of getting a big team back at the Broadfield.
“We had a decent run last year and obviously we’d like to have another one this season. It was a great night when we beat Bolton and we were only just pipped by Swansea who went on to win it.”
