Battling Eagles upset the odds
Under-fire due Timo Lahti and Simon Gustafsson made a point tonight – and helped makeshift Eastbourne to a notable win.
Eagles, missing four regulars, beat title-chasing Lakeside 49-41 at Arlington.
The threadbare six-man Eagles line-up was further weakened by a mid-meeting injury to guest Richie Worrall.
But Lahti took a full seven rides and managed four wins while Gustafsson shared the heat 15 4-2 with Bjarne Pedersen which secured maximum points.
Both Lahti and Gustafsson were heavily criticised by boss Trevor Geer after the recent defeat at Poole.
But they were part of a home side who showed great appetite for an against-the-odds battle tonight Eagles hit the front for the second time in the evening with a 5-1 for Lahti and impressive guest Stuart Robson over Richard Lawson and Piotr Swiderski in heat eight.
The hosts provided the winners to the last five races to keep their noses in front.
Lahti swooped around from gate four to beat Arlington specialist Lewis Bridger in a shared heat 14 to secure the win.
Pedersen then led a closely contested heat 15 from Davey Watt while Gustafsson kept Swiderksi at bay to secure an eight-point margin.
Eagles: Lahti 13+1 (7), Pedersen 13 (6), Gustafsson 11+1 (6), Robson 6+4 (5), Worrall 4+1 (3), Klindt 2 (3), Woodward r/r.
Lakeside: Watt 14+1 (6), Bridger 9 (5), Swiderski 9 (6), Lawson 6+2 (6), Karlsson 3+1 (4), Birks 0 (3), Ulamek r/r.
