Non-league Day: Albion old boy set for Lewes debut
Tom Vickers goes straight into the Lewes squad today after completing a seven-match ban.
The summer signing from Hastings has had to wait for his debut after a double sending-off towards the end of last season.
But he is now free from suspension and had a run out in Wednesday’s 1-1 friendly draw with Burgess Hill under-21s.
Vickers can play in defence or midfield and the Lewes management team of Garry Wilson and Danny Bloor are delighted to have the former Albion youth team captain available again.
Bloor said: “Tom can play in a number of positions. He isn’t match fit yet and it will take him a while to get that but he is a player Garry and I have got to know quite well in our short time here and he is the type of player we want at Lewes Football Club.
“He is a strong boy. He is only 19 and in the next year of so he perhaps need to settle down to one position but this season we will be using him in different positions.”
Another summer signing who has yet to make his debut, Dan Smith, suffered a recurrence of an ankle problem in Wednesday’s friendly and will again be missing as the Rooks entertain Met Police today.
