Albion skipper deserves Scotland chance
Matt Upson reckons Albion captain Gordon Greer is in the form of his life and deserves a chance for Scotland.
Greer led by example as the Seagulls became the first side to prevent Reading scoring at home in Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Madejski Stadium.
The central defender is back in the reckoning with Gordon Strachan’s Scotland, although he has been restricted to the bench so far on international duty.
Upson, Greer’s partner and former England centre-half, told The Argus: “He brings something different to their squad in terms of with the ball.
“He is very capable. You have to be in this team to want the ball at the back and play out. He is very calm and composed and I think he is probably in the best form of his career. I am enjoying playing with him.”
Albion have only conceded one goal during a four-match unbeaten run. They are rediscovering their mean form of last season under Oscar Garcia as they head to QPR tomorrow night.
Upson said: “We know our positions pretty well and how we are going to defend and deal with things. We are on the same page and hopefully that will hold us in good stead for the whole season and we’ll keep a good defensive record.
“The manager gives us little bits, but he is quite happy with where we are at and what we are doing. He knows we understand the position and he’s happy for us to get on with it.”
