Albion No. 1 Tomasz Kuszczak has praised the character of opposite number Jack Butland.

England under 21 keeper Butland joined tomorrow night's visitors Barnsley on loan from Stoke at the end of September.

The £4 million prospect conceded three more goals against his former club Birmingham on Saturday, a defeat which sent the Tykes tumbling to the bottom of the Championship table and cost boss Dave Flitcroft his job.

Kuszczak said: "He has gone somewhere to try and play in a team which is conceding many goals, and nobody likes that.

"You want to keep a clean sheet and have that good feeling but he is not afraid of that and fair play to him.

"To go to a team that is struggling is not easy but he has accepted the challenge and this shows good character."
