Play-offs a "minimum" target for new Crawley boss Gregory

The Argus: John Gregory with Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford today John Gregory with Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford today

John Gregory has set his sights on leading Crawley Town to promotion to the Championship after being unveiled as the club's new manager.

Gregory was installed on an 18-month contract this morning and will take charge of his first game at Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Crawley are currently nine points outside the play-offs in 15th place in League One and 21 points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

Despite that Gregory insists his aim is to lead Crawley to the Championship this season.

Gregory said: "This club has come a long way in a short space of time but it doesn't want to stand still. We are not happy just to get into League One so my vision is to look up.

"The Championship is not beyond us and when I sat down with the board and listened to what they had to say it was pleasing to hear the club is ambitious as I am.

"The play offs are not beyond us. The play-offs are a minimum. Getting in the top two for automatic promotion is not beyond us. That is our ultimate aim."

Nine points outside the play-offs, but only five points above the relegation zone. I know which I think is more likely.

Crawley 13/2 with Paddy Power to be relegated. I think I'll have some of that.

Silly, silly decision to sack Barker (and lose Coppell). Be careful what you wish for. A real shame for Sussex football, but Crawley are definitely at the start of a downward spiral.

You obviously havent been watching us these last months to say about RB? He had got himself into such a negative frame of mind and it came across in the way the team was starting to play?
It may not work out but at least we may now have a go, and is there something wrong with showing ambition, no matter that it would be extremely difficult.
I seem to remember several times over the last couple of years the Albion supporting doubters on here predicting meltdown, even when your beloved RB took over!

Good luck to all CTFC connections on the latest appointment. The play offs would be stunning from the current position. I was shocked and a little saddened to hear the Richie was out the door. Nice guy and pehaps should have been given more time. Wish him well at his new club.

Meantime having some problems reconciling the new guy. If you wiki his name the word relegation crops up rather a lot !

Lets see
