Oscar lands manager of the month award

The Argus: Oscar Garcia with his award Oscar Garcia with his award

The Amex has passed another landmark – by staging its first Oscar award presentation.

Head coach Oscar Garcia picked up his first prize in English football when he was named Sky Bet Championship manager of the month for November.

And he immediately dedicated it to Albion’s fans.

Oscar pipped Brian McDermott of Leeds, Bolton’s Dougie Freedman and Nigel Pearson, who visits The Amex tomorrow with Leicester, to the prize.

The Seagulls boss said: “I would like to dedicate the award to the fans, who have been so supportive since my first day at Brighton and Hove Albion, fill the stadium for every match and support us away from home. “Even though it’s an individual prize, it’s a prize for the whole team and the whole staff.”

Chairman Tony Bloom congratulated Oscar, his staff and players’ and added: “To have won this so early on in his career with the Albion is a superb achievement, particularly considering the circumstances with all the injuries.”

Albion won three and drew one of their four games last month to complete a six-game unbeaten run.

Former Seagulls midfielder Alan Curbishley, who chairs the judging panel, said: “Oscar is now making an impact at Brighton following his appointment over the summer.”

Oscar does not need to worry about the manager of the month curse.

His team have already lost their first game of December against Barnsley.

But they have an immediate chance to get back on the red carpet by toppling Championship A-listers Leicester tomorrow.

It's nice to see you smiling Oscar. There's no chance of winning it for December, especially after Tuesday's fiasco. Come on Oscar, make us all smile on Saturday with the right team selection.

Anyway well done Oscar and may many more awards come your way.

True that ringtone, but us Palace fans have become used to boring, uninspiring football as well haven't we? When we are back in the championship next season I expect to win the manager of the month award every time. Park the bus, thump the ball up the pitch and you can gain a very effective 0-0 or with a bit of luck Murray will latch on to a high defensive clearance and nick a 1-0. Oscar is far too imaginative and entertaining to ever manage a club like us.

Saraman is the, 'right team selection,' the team that you agree with, 'before,' the kick off and before the result is known?
What if Ulloa is on the bench, would you want him to start?
Would you want both Ince and Bridcutt to start, even tho they are both central defenders, is that a tad too defensive?
How about having Bridcutt start CMD and have Ince push forward, do we know that Ince an play this role effectively, do the few runs forward that Ince has made tell you that?
If Conway starts wide on the left do you also want Buckley to start on the right? Buckley is returning from injury, do you think he is physically ready to start a match?

The reason I am asking so many questions is, Oscar's award was earned by him making the, 'right team selections,' but it appears that the selections are only, 'right,' if we get the desired result or at least a result that we the fans can live with.
I would like all those that think Oscar picked the wrong team on Tuesday to post the team that they think should start on Saturday. If this is done then we can see if we the fans are not only on the same page as Oscar but also, we will see if we are on the same page as each other. Come Sunday morning we will know who started, who delivered and who didn't, if some don't, and we will know the result. It's easy to pick a team when the result is known, but maybe not so easy before.
If Ulloa is on the bench it will be interesting to see how many think he should start given what has happened to Orlandi.

If Brighton sack Oscar then I'm up for the challenge. I'm already sick of having no hot water in the changing rooms. Selhurst needs some serious investment. I cannot believe how our premiership millions are being wasted on journeymen players who do not really care about the history of this club when it is the infrastructure that needs attention. Have got my CV ready for when OG gets the push. Might be a long wait though.

It's a tough call, but I would go for:

Kuszczak
Bruno, Greer, Upson, Ward,
Bridcutt
Crofts, Agustien
Buckley, Barnes, Conway

Usual suspects on the bench.

I'm not convinced about the popular ideas on here regarding either playing Bridcutt and Ince, or playing Barnes and Lita. Bridcutt and Ince are, I suspect, competing for one place, whereas playing two up front would weaken us in midfield.

Many think that having twin strikers is a panacea, but it's not how they train and you risk losing the midfield battle and not being able to supply the isolated strikers. Buckley and Conway can drift in if needed, and Agustien can support too. The team is far more flexible than any defined formation suggests so as long as the players follow instructions (something it appears they failed to do for an hour against Barnsley) then we can compete with anyone.

Why is everyone hung up on 4 4 2
England have failed with that formation for years.
You tend to get over run in midfield.
Having said that, I am not against Barnes taking up a wide supporting roll for Lita or Leo.
As long as we have proper width from either Conway or Buckley
Why is everyone hung up on 4 4 2 England have failed with that formation for years. You tend to get over run in midfield. Having said that, I am not against Barnes taking up a wide supporting roll for Lita or Leo. As long as we have proper width from either Conway or Buckley Ringtony

EX-Pat, who would you start on Saturday?

Thanks EX-Pat.
Difficult for you and I to pick a team as we get to see so little of them but I think I am leaning more to your choices so far. I just don't see wholesale changes happening on Saturday, IMHO the team he sent out to face Barnsley wasn't a bad one, they just played badly. I think David will be on the bench and perhaps a start for Kemmy.

BTW.... What an AWFUL trophy.
lol...I couldn't agree more. I bet that will be straight up in the loft collecting dust. That's where my only one ended up (In 2005 in case you're interested - least goals scored and least goals conceded in a month)

anyone know if we are the game of the day on sat? for all us supporters who live abroad. it would be nice to see them on the tv again
It's been great this season - I've watched the Albion online several times but I can definitely recommend going from Flash streams to Acestreams - far better quality video.
which site do you use then?

I still go to Wiziwig, but look for the streams that say Acestream rather than Flash. The bitrate is usually nearer 1500kbps than the 200-400 of flash stream. You will have to install Aceplayer, but this is just a version of the massively popular VLC.
