Albion under-18s were undone by a player described as the next Paul Gascoigne as their FA Youth Cup dreams came to an end last night.

George Green scored twice in the second half as the Seagulls went down 2-0 against Everton in a third round tie at Goodison Park.

Everton paid Bradford City £2million to win the race to sign the midfielder from under the noses of Liverpool and Tottenham as a 15-year-old in 2011.

His quality proved the difference between the two sides last night as Green, 17, fired Everton ahead on the hour following an even first half. The England under-18 international wrapped up victory for the Toffees from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to go after the referee spotted a handball in the area.

Only a couple of fine saves from Christian Walton – who was on the bench for Albion’s senior team on Saturday – prevented Green completing his hat-trick late in the game.

Charlie Harris had Albion’s best chance in the first half when his drive from the edge of the area was pushed away by Russell Griffiths.
