Seagulls skipper suffers injury setback

The Argus: Gordon Greer will not be fit to return tomorrow Gordon Greer will not be fit to return tomorrow

Albion will be without Gordon Greer again for Huddersfield’s visit tomorrow.

The skipper has suffered a setback in his attempt to shake off a calf injury.

But Tomasz Kuszczak is fit again and likely to return in goal.

Greer was forced off in the early stages of the last home match against Leicester and missed last Saturday’s win at Middlesbrough.

Head coach Oscar Garcia revealed to The Argus: “Gordon’s had a setback and he hasn’t taken part in training. He is working with the physios.”

Adam El-Abd deputises again for the Scottish international centre-half.

Kuszczak, meanwhile, has recovered from the strained stomach muscle which prompted his withdrawal during the warm-up against Leicester.

Oscar confirmed: “Tomasz has taken part in training and he will be available for selection.”

Peter Brezovan has performed well between the posts in Kuszczak’s absence.

Oscar said: “I have to make a decision. I’ll speak also with Ruben (Martinez, goalkeeping coach).”

Andrea Orlandi, who has been sidelined by knee swelling, has also returned to training.

Albion will wait to see if there is any reaction before deciding whether the Spanish midfielder has a chance of being on the bench.

Great news about TK. I'm sure that AEA will continue to do a good job in the skipper's absence. 3 points and a clean sheet please.

adam taking gordons position has been absolutly seemless as if he had never been away, what a pro, he will do a very solid job while the capts away.

Brian, I expect your quicker than GG! Happy to see Adam carry on, won't let us down in the one and only position he should play. Great news about our big pole, no brainier, straight back in for me even though Brez has done very well in his absence. 2.0 tomorrow UTA

Very happy to see El-Abd in there. Greer is going to have a battle to reclaim his place.

So our Egyptian international defender continues to deputise for our Scottish international captain in defence. Never thought we'd be reading that a few years ago. Exciting times and an indication of the progress we have made and are making. UTA

There was a time when hearing that one of our senor players has suffered a, 'set back,' would have been cause for serious concern but now, well it's just another day at the office. This season has seen so many of our players on the injury list, the fact that Greer will have to be out for a while longer comes as no surprise, it's par for the course.
In a rather weird way, all the injuries that the squad has suffered has helped to a degree as all the lads know that they might get their chance to shine on any given week. The cover players being fit, able and willing is what has got us to where we are. Brez and El-Abd are two shining examples of what the squad system is all about.

To be honest I hope I never see Greer in an Albion shirt again. Just not good enough full stop. Poor footballer. Get rid , buy a quality CD in January, see what`s going on with Lewis Dunk and go from there. We actually need a big fit mature, fearless Dunk in the team. I`d rather have Dunk than Greer any day.
