Dobbie could come back to face Seagulls

The Argus: Stephen Dobbie Stephen Dobbie

Blackpool could be set to give Stephen Dobbie the chance to shine against his old club.

The Scottish attacker failed to make an impact with Albion last term.

He moved on to Crystal Palace, who have since loaned him back to his old club at Bloomfield Road.

Dobbie was left out of the side at home to Leeds on Boxing Day, as Blackpool fought back for a well deserved 1-1 draw.

But boss Paul Ince has hinted he could be back today.

Blackpool hit self-destruct at Yeovil

Ricardo Fuller has missed the last four games through suspension and injury but is also expected to play.

Fuller could replace Michael Chopra as the lone frontman with Dobbie playing just off him in a 4-4-1-1 set-up.

Ince has decisions to make after defender Kirk Broadfoot as sent off in the last minute against Leeds.

He will switch Craig Cathcart to central defence but is unhappy at having to make a change – and having to cope with a sixth red card of December.

Blackpool's most recent win - v Sheffield Wednesday

Ince looked forward to taking on Albion and said: “It’s nice to go into it in a positive mood.

“It’s not the three points we would have liked but it’s a point against a good side.

“It’s a fine line in these games and that’s what annoys me, losing my centre-half.

“I thought we could have pushed on again.

“We’ve got Ricky back, hopefully. But we shoot ourselves in the foot again.

“We need to do the right things. We have to be tight, be compact, fight for every ball.

“Do the basics right and we will have half a chance.”

Going to be one of those games i think, same will happen when someone signs Lita, he will bang in goals and we will wonder why we didnt sign him.
I think we will have to much for them as long as we dont get to rough, El-Abd will do well to keep calm today, a repeat of his wrestling antics against Charlton could see him off. Play our players in their right positions please, Buckley on the right, Ince in midfield with Bridcutt, Agustien and Orlandi with Ulloa up front, if Lita is still with us have him on the bench with Barnes and LuaLua so we have options up front. Ince and Bridcutt can drop into defence if needed, Crofts, Andrews and Dunk other subs, lets be positive and go for it. 1-2 Albion.

Just been looking at top seven teams in the league and all play with at least two strikers supporting each other, often three in attack for some teams:
Leicester Nugent and Vardy
Burnley Vokes and Ings
QPR Zamora and Austin
Derby Dawkins,Martin and Ward
Leeds McCormack and Smith
Notts Frst Henderson and Mackie
Ipswich Murphy,Nouble and McGoldrick

We continue to play the lone striker even at home which has not worked too well, far too many points dropped. In my opinion we need to try 2 strikers at home and get that early momentum and lead.Away from home I can understand a bit more caution but things do need to change and need to see more ambitious benches particularly at home.

Indeed. Still can't believe how many goals Vokes has sored (and Ings) That is after selling Charlie Austin as well! The lone striker set up here is running out of time.

Trouble is, the usual three up front havent scored, Ulloa 7 goals in 10 games, Barnes 5 goals in 20 games, Buckley 1 goal in 17 games, Lopez 1 in 20 games, Conway 1 in 13 games, Crofts 5 in 20 games.
Look at Nevilles quote regarding what others are doing in this division.
Take Ulloa out and Barnes's 2 penalties we have performed way below whats required. Crofts was our joint highest goal scorer until Boxing Day!
I know we have had injuries etc but we have had Lita here for 3 months and whats he played, 45minutes if he's lucky and scored 1 goal, probably cost £250k in wages for him as well, could have been used a lot more imo.
If it wasnt for our tight defence wed be right in the s*** now, so lets be positive in our approach and go for the wins, OG promised us a more attacking style of play, we now have nearly everyone back from injury so no excuses please. UTA

Totally agree, Neville.
I have been banging on about this for ages and others keep trying to ridicule me saying stupid thing like two strikers are out of date and not the way football is played now. The statistics say otherwise... The lone striker doesn't work for us or others unless you have the mid-fielders to go past the striker and get en masse in the box, like Barcelona used to do. We haven't and therefore don't. Also, games are not as exciting. That's the trouble with all these foreign coaches; they all try to play the same continental way which is foreign to most of our British players and quite frankly, too slow at times.

The big problem with playing two strikers is you have four fit strikers ,i'm with the two up top but we have as a squad too many midfielders so this determines our set up.
Our system works only when (imho) Buckley, lopez(last season),kaz,Vicente were playing really well and we had the added bonus of a flying Wayne Bridge /Bruno last season pushing on.

If we play two upfront then no place for Bridcutt. He's less then average in a flat midfield 4. Needs to see the game in front of him. And we'll certainly concede more so Barnes (assuming the Ashites see him as the second striker) will need a significantly better conversion rate than he's managed thus far.

Need to play to our strengths and Bridcutt as holding player in a 4-1-4-1 is our strength. We have better shape and balance in that formation. And Ulloa will score given decent service from the four behind him.

Sorry Far gull, but we are out there to get promotion, if we only have 2 fit strikers play them, no good having 1 sat on the bench just incase the other gets a knock, that would only leave you with one anyway so go for it, we might end up with only 1 striker left but we might score a few more goals in the process and be in a better position, we've had Lita here for 3 months and not played him even when Barnes wasnt scoring, he is on loan and if he gets injured-send him back not our problem. If we get stuck bung Ince or someone up there, you never know they might score a few. We need to take our chances when they come, not have someone on the bench just incase, next season might not go so well and we could regret not taking this chance.

I further told him that I will not be commenting on this forum again, thus ensuring that I will not, DRIVE FANS AWAY. I wish you all a happy new year and all the best to our club.
Vegas, you dont drive any of us away, infact its nice to have your opinions from afar on here as you see things from a totally different perspective which gives us something to think about, i get tempted to reply to certain posters but just cant be bothered, but there has been times when i have and felt better for it. hope your on here later to discuss our win, have you seen the line up! its what weve all been shouting for and now we've got our wish i hope it gets the right result.
