Crawley Town boss John Gregory hopes his ‘underdogs’ can claim another scalp when they visit Swindon today.

The Reds are only five points behind Swindon in the League One table.

But the Robins boast an impressive home record with eight league wins out of 11 at the County Ground this season, with their only defeats coming at the hands of Leyton Orient and Walsall.

This is only Crawley’s third season as a Football League side and Gregory knows the size of the task his team face today.

However, he is impressed by the fighting spirit he has discovered in a squad he inherited last month and believes that will stand them in good stead as they chase a third win in the last four games.

Gregory said: “Certainly going to Swindon represents a really tough game for us but we will be ready.

“These boys love a battle, they love to be known as the underdogs.

“They have done it for many years before I came here. Crawley Town were always the underdogs and it has got them into League One.

“We will continue to be like that. It has all the ingredients to be a very good match.”

Crawley have lost 3-0 on their last two visits to Swindon and have never beaten the Robins since being promoted to the Football League.

But Gregory believes a fast start and a display full of character can end that record.

He said: “I was very pleased with the way we started against Notts County. We started very well against Leyton Orient as well but fell behind against the run of play.

“We have a good collection of players who are mentally tough. We make a point of making sure we stay in the game as long as we can. If you go 1-0 behind, make sure it doesn’t become two or three by going chasing the game. That is what we have always instructed our players to do.”

Crawley will again be without skipper Dannie Bulman due to a fractured cheekbone and forward Billy Clarke, who serves the second of a three-match ban.
