Greer and Orlandi in FA Cup contention for Albion

The Argus: Gordon Greer (left) could make his comeback for Albion against Reading in the FA Cup. Gordon Greer (left) could make his comeback for Albion against Reading in the FA Cup.

Gordon Greer and Andrea Orlandi could both return to Albion's starting line-up against Reading in the FA Cup at The Amex tomorrow.

Skipper Greer has not played since suffering a calf injury in the home win against Leicester on December 7.

Assistant head coach Nathan Jones said this morning: "GG trained yesterday and is going to be training again. God willing he will have no reaction to that, so that's a plus point.

"It's good to have competition in that area. We have it with four very good centre-halves. He trained yesterday with a real energy. He's determined to come back and prove a point."

Spanish midfielder Orlandi made an impact as a late substitute in Wednesday's 1-1 home draw with Bournemouth. He has missed most of the season due to knee surgery and swelling.

Jones said:"We brought him back for the Bournemouth game away (November 30) and he wasn't quite ready.

"It's very pleasing to have him back. He's a great lad, technically a fantastic player, so to have him back playing more like himself was very good."

Keith Andrews, Kemy Agustien and Ashley Barnes are also likely starters. Boss Oscar Garcia is poised to utilise the strength in depth of his squad but Bruno (thigh) remains sidelined.

Good to have both Gordon and Andrea back in contention, although I don't see either playing a full 90 minutes. Purely precautionary however. Looking forward to the 4th round draw. UTA

Good side, however I would start Barnes ahead of Lua Lua. Think we may see just how much we have missed Orlandi, Premiership player when fully fit.

I don't think he'll be going to Sunderland - they have very limited resources and look certain to go down.

Interesting that dunk is not mentioned? Surely he has found some form by now? This lad looks like the next jake Robinson ... Early promise but fades when the going gets tough.
I suppose OG can't start to rebuild the squad until we know what division we will be in? We may make the play offs, and at that point it becomes a lottery about results, I think we won't make above 4th spot, but that's done to fitness and retaining players... Massive job ahead for the club interms of age for half the team, ince out of contract in summer! Club need to tie up some of these players , if ince continues to impress he wiill be on the radar of 7-8 premiership clubs, his physical stature at his age is a massive plus.

As NJ says... We have 4 very good central defenders.

I'm still hopeful that Dunk will come good again... I rate the guy and hope that his actions off the pitch and the impact it had on him personally are now well and truly behind him.

I mention a team for tomorrow above. I personally would have no fear if Dunk was thrown in so that Upson could be rested.

Decent point about being cup tied. What's the betting Bridcutt is reported to have picked up a slight niggle or knock in training today? Also, as mentioned before, I don't think Sunderland are the only interested club. Up here, WBA and Villa have also been mentioned.
And interesting to see the line that OG will utilise the squad's strength in depth. Stand by for a couple of surprises...??

Dunk isn't mentioned by NJ, but is counted:

"It's good to have competition in that area. We have it with four very good centre-halves."

No doubting his quality and ability. He needs to get his head right and stop making silly mistakes, otherwise he'll be a top drawer low league player. Hopefully, he'll fulfil his potential now that being publicly and falsely accused is well behind him.

Would be good to see Dunk back in the side tomorrow - the club has a lack of young defensive cover presently and Dunk had the makings of a really good player before the off field distractions took hold. Suspect one or two key players will be rested or put on the bench, especially those with recent fitness issues such as Ulloa and Lua Lua.

Yes, not so long ago he was being linked with Premier clubs, he's lost a lot of career time, whether he can fulfill his early potential is questionable. I hope so we need central defence cover, Elphick did ok for Bournemouth against us, but Dunk was always the better player IMO.

I would like to think and believe Bridders will not go to Sunderland--as has been reported that was their final offer--which was too low for us to consider. However that does not stop other Premiership clubs coming in. Do players want to stay with us and help the club get into the Premiership or do they want to do it the easy way with a transfer!!

Looking forward to tomorrow; I hope we play a strong side but using some of our youngsters in the starting 11 and on the bench. If I was a Reading defender then I would hate having Lua Lua run at me then March. Could be a cracker tomorrow; just hope the wind dies down and no rain however no doubt they will water the pitch before and at half time. You never know, we could end up with a good water polo side.

Orlandi - and to a lesser extent Greer need match fitness so that's why they might play.

It won't be a full house tomorrow, according to someone i spoke to at the club. Only about 12,000 tickets sold to home fans as of weds. but should be enough for a bit of atmosphere. Coming in between two home league games and with the bad weather, the cup doesn't hold the same attraction it used to.

Hope we play a strong side, good cup always good for fans, gives everyone a boost,

Calderon, Greer, Upson, Ward
Bridcutt, Ince, Crofts
Lua Lua, Ulloa, Orlandi

Think tomorrow will tell us a few pointers regarding Bridcutt, if plays maybe not going to Sunderland as would be cup tied
Good side, however I would start Barnes ahead of Lua Lua. Think we may see just how much we have missed Orlandi, Premiership player when fully fit.
I like the Barnes option too. Although I'm not his number 1 fan, he made a real impact on Wednesday and will make a good decoy for big Len. Lua Lua as a sub for the last 20 mins when there defence are getting tired, his one trick ( explosive pace) might then work every time.
