Reading have injury problems for Amex trip

Wayne Bridge in action for Albion last season

Wayne Bridge in action for Albion last season

First published in Sport by

Reading are likely to be missing eight players through injury at The Amex today.

They had ten men out for various reasons when they drew 1-1 at home to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.

Since then they have recouped central defender Kaspers Gorkss, who was suspended against Forest after a red card in the 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, and wideman Jordan Obita, who is recovering from a virus.

But Billy Sharp has gone back to Southampton after a loan spell.

How Reading drew with Forest on New Year's Day

Former England left-back Wayne Bridge, who enjoyed such a fine season on loan to Albion last term, has only started nine games this season due to a knee injury, the last of them on October 26.

He also made one appearance off the bench when he went on at half-time against the Seagulls.

Jason Roberts, Hal Robson-Kanu, Mikele Leigertwood, Jobi McAnuff, Sean Morrison, Chris Baird and Jem Karacan are also ruled out.

Welcome to our world however this goes to show spending money does not gaurantee a good league position. Injuries can happen anytime and I would always substitute short term class for long term depth in any squad. Good result today for the Albion and look forward to beating Reading again in the league.
Lets also have one of the PL top 4 in the next round.

Clubs probably thought that about us with our injuries, but we surprised a few, today won't be easy, I fancy a win though.

Like that team, bigger game next saturday... but hope Jake FC gets a run today. Bruno still crocked though, isn't he?

Ah yes, think he might be. If so Lopez can be moved to RB if necessary so put Andrews / Shamir Goodwin on bench instead of Bruno.

Looks like we hit the sweet spot with WB, got a full and excellent season out of him. He had a history of regular fitness problems, so we did really well.

I think WB loved playing for us last season and thus if he picked up a knock was keen to shrug it off and get back to playing.

Injuries are what they are but I do think that a players attitude and desire also have a key part to play when it comes to getting over an injury.

I wonder if Wayne is not feeling the love at his new club and thus is happy to just sit on the sidelines.

Anyway... Here's to a win today and a bit of confidence on our own patch to take into the game against Birmingham.
