Greer back as Albion make sweeping changes

Gordon Greer has been passed fit for FA Cup action at The Amex today.

Greer returns from a calf injury as one of eight changes to the Albion side which faces Reading in the third round.

Ashley Barnes, target of an offer from Burnley recently, starts but there is no Liam Bridcutt in Oscar Garcia’s match day 18.

Albion have announced via Twitter that Bridcutt, Tomasz Kuszczak and Matt Upson “don't play as a precaution due to minor injuries.”

Adam Chicksen gets a first start at left-back, Solly March makes his full debut further forward and there is also a return for Jake Forster-Caskey.

Stephen Ward, Leo Ulloa, Rohan Ince, Kazenga LuaLua and David Lopez are among those who drop out of the 11.

Today’s referee is vastly experienced Premier League official Chris Foy, who took charge of the 2010 final between Chelsea and Portsmouth (awarding two penalties) and last term’s semi between Chelsea and Manchester City.

The Merseysider has not taken charge of an Albion game since the opening weeks of the 2006-07 season, when they lost 1-0 at Bristol City in their last match under Mark McGhee’s management.

Albion: Brezovan; Calderon, Greer, El-Abd, Chicksen; Andrews, Crofts, Forster-Caskey; Agustien, March, Barnes. Subs: Ankergren, Dunk, Orlandi, Ward, Ulloa, LuaLua, Ince.

Good to see that Solly is being given a run out. I hope he does well.

A real chance for the fringe players to shine today. I would have liked to see Dunk in for El abd but apart from that I can see a big opportunity for all that start.

Re LB... It's less than a week in to the window and already I'm bored with all of the speculation that surrounds him.
It is in no ones interest to drag this out.. Ours, the clubs, the players or the purchasing club so let's either get on with it and start a bidding war or let's have TB come out and shut the door completely on a move in this window.

Good luck today boys... Put your names in lights

It's interesting, Major, that LB is not even in the squad whereas Ulloa is on the bench and therefore, could get Cup-Tied if he comes on....which he will.
I think you cannot read too much into anything as our main players are often given a rest in early Cup rounds but they are often on the bench at least.
My conclusion is that LB is leaving imminently but that doesn't worry me as long as we have Ince or Crofts. We can always get someone else to park in front of the back four.

Heard on radio that LB and the others have suuddently got 'knocks'. Everyone knows this means they are probably leaving. I didn't realise Kuzscak might be going but seems so.
As for Ulloa, on the bench and my understanding is he wont be cup tied unless he comes on.
But it 100% confirms that Bridcutt is going to Sunderland with Gus, and looks likely Upson and Kuzscak will be off too.

Have to agree with Clean Sheet here. Speculation has been rife regarding LB, however, resting two of our most important players would seems to be prudent for a cup game. After all, our main target is the premiership and that will be more realistically achieved with our backbone rested and intact. Now I'm not saying they won't go, just that resting first teamers is at least as plausible as wrapping them up in cotton wool for departure. My humble opinion only :)

Hate to say i saw it coming, but I did suggest on here yesterday LB would be missing because of a slight knock. Upson & Kuzsak are more believable and have the added benefit for the club of supporting the niggle theory for LB.
