Transfer window watch: Albion striker set for exit
George Barker’s Albion nightmare is about to end with a move to Swindon Town.
The fringe striker is poised to join the League One play-off candidates in a permanent deal.
He will link up again at the County Ground with former Albion development squad team-mate Yaser Kasim and ex-development coach Luke Williams, who is now No.2 to Mark Cooper at the Wiltshire outfit.
Barker has never started a match for Albion’s first team. He made three late substitute appearances under Gus Poyet last season after struggling for game time during a loan spell at Barnet.
The 22-year-old has also been unable to make a breakthrough since Oscar Garcia took over from Poyet in the summer. His only appearance for the Spaniard was as a late substitute in the home defeat by Nottingham Forest at the start of October.
Barker recently returned to Albion from another loan stint with League Two newcomers Newport County, where he had two outings as a substitute.
The pacey, Portsmouth-born prospect joined Albion’s youth set-up in 2008 following spells at Fareham and Southampton.
Last May Barker was one of four players found not guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage woman in a Brighton hotel room.
