Albion striker Ashley Barnes is in the process of signing for Championship rivals Burnley, the Lancastrian club's manager Sean Dyche has confirmed.

Reports emerged late last night that Burnley have agreed a fee with Albion for Barnes after putting in a bid of around £750,000 at the start of the January transfer window.

Barnes is believed to have headed north to discuss personal terms.

Dyche said this morning: "We're searching through them, pushing as hard as we can to get a deal done, and possibly one or two more.

"Ashley Barnes is in process, along with three or four things, but it takes the details to be decided to make it happen.

"We're not there yet. We've seen before these things don't always get done, we're aware of other options and waiting to gather clarity."

Burnley want Barnes as back-up and competition for the prolific Danny Ings and former Seagull Sam Vokes, who has just signed a new contract.

The former Plymouth forward is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal offered to him in the summer.

Albion are set to cash in on him now, rather than running the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer.

The Seagulls signed long-time loan striker target Jon Obika from Spurs for 93 days yesterday but will need another striker if Barnes goes.

Burnley are currently second in the table, five places and 11 points above Albion.
