Mason has always looked pretty useful when I have seen him play. Not sure about his all round game compared with Ash, but would be a good replacement I would say. Interesting that we seem to only want Conway on loan - as cover for Buckley and our other injury prone wide players I assume?

So much for this being a quiet transfer window.
I would guess that the fact that Conway's contract expires this summer has something to do with only taking him on loan at this time, Mason is under contract until 2016. We can buy Mason now and sign Conway on a free for next season.
In an ideal world Vegas that scenario would happen...

In reality, why would Cardiff let him go out on loan again and get nothing in 6 months when they could sell him now and pick up a handy fee.

Would we let Barnes out on loan now giving Burnley/Leeds the opportunity of a freebie soon?

    Just a thought.
SMF20, I am not saying it would be good business by Cardiff, and maybe we are in secret talks to buy him, but it was the only thing I could come up with as to why.
I guess it's also possible that Conway, when agreeing to go out on loan to us, obtained a promise of a no fee release should we want him. I would not be surprised to hear that he is on his way back to us on loan until the end of the season."

The Argus: Joe Mason is a target for Albion Joe Mason is a target for Albion

Albion have Cardiff's Joe Mason on their radar as they weigh up their striker options.

The Seagulls are looking at Mason as a possible replacement for Ashley Barnes if he moves to Leeds or Burnley, The Argus can reveal.

Mason is in a similar situation at Cardiff to winger Craig Conway, who Albion want back on loan.

The 22-year-old bought from Plymouth for £250,000 in July 2011 helped the Welshmen to promotion from the Championship last season but has not featured for them in the Premier League.

Former Republic of Ireland under 21 international Mason has just returned from a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers.

The Seagulls would face competition to secure the £600,000-rated marksman from Championship rivals Bolton and others.
