David volley sends Albion into top six

Albion are into the top six for the first time this season thanks to a wonderful David Lopez volley.

But there were concerns over Andrew Crofts after their 1-0 win over Birmingham City.

David let fly with a superb right-foot finish on 58 minutes after involvement in the initial move with Bruno.

Crofts had a drive blocked by keeper Darren Randolph before the ball eventually fell to the right foot of Lopez, who angled his volley across the keeper.

The impressive Crofts had to be carried off later in the half with what looked a nasty knee injury.

Albion were good value for the win, despite a nervy finale.

Randolph twice denied man-of-the-match Kazenga LuaLua in a slow-burner of a first half and also pushed away a David curler.

He later kept out an angled Crofts drive as Albion chased a second goal.

Blues piled men forward in the later stages as they looked to extend their unbeaten record to 11 games.

But Tomasz Kuszczak never had to make a really demanding save.

His punch clear of a stoppage-time free-kick launched a counter raid from which Rohan Ince should have added a second.

Jonathan Obika made his debut as a 63rd minute substitute but did not have much chance to impress.

A good performance, but once again started to sit deep after going 1-0 up.
I am sure I will get a few thumbs down, but for me Lopez was MOM.
Bruno also had an excellent game along with Crofts & Kaz.
The defence were rarely troubled.
Leo looked a bit off the pace today. Obika looked lively when he came on.

4 away games on the trot now.
Derby, Burnley and Watford in the league. All difficult games . Here's hoping for 5 or 6 points from them.

Well done manager and squad to work their way into the top 6 despite never having the luxury of a strike force that is consistently fit and firing.

It does look a difficult fixture list in the next few weeks but the team's done well on their travels vs good sides so far this season.

Gutted for Crofty, awesome display today, hope it's not as bad as it appears. What's up with Ulloa, no spark or intent today, looks so unfit. Obika looked ok,but need to see some more of him.

A good victory but listening to the commentary did not think I missed much, the three points will be very useful considering the run of away games coming up, we should still finish up in the top half of the table.

Superb performance from LuaLua and run very close to MOM by David who was everywhere today to great effect. As posted by Alfie T, what's up with Ulloa? Looks an unhappy player to me.

Great result, and fantastic to be in the top 6. Looking back a few months ago, I was wondering who we would displace, with Blackpool and Watford both set fare in the top 6. There will be many more twists and turns this season.

I was there and it was a very good game, although frustratingly sat back towards the end. Kaz, Crofts, David & Andrews were all excellent.
As was Bruno after an initial sloppy start.
Leo was off the pace today.

Thought team played well today, Crofts was superb until his injury, we will miss him more than most realise, Ulloa looked really pi55ed off when substituted and fear a back lash from the man from Argentina.
Andrews looked much better today, but with him being on loan, it's another position to fill come summer.
Can we please offer Bridcutt a massive pay rise to keep him here, with Crofts injury we could do with keeping him until the end of the season!
Ince was mom in my opinion, putting himself about all over the place and should have scored late on. A tough few weeks coming up, if we are still in the top 6 before next home match an auto spot will be on the cards.
Well happy after today, Lopez was a bit off with some of his dead balls but the goal more than makes up for it. UTA
